Greetings from Sunnydell!
This is our 5th and final day for the Farming Challenge with .
Big thanks for the inspiration, motivation and support.
All week long I’ve been so inspired.
I’ve created an alphabetical hard copy of my current inventory of seeds along with notes on germination patterns.
Ordered a few more seeds based on this inventory and even journaled.
This is the lull before the gardening storm and a great time to invest our visions for 2025!
Looking forward to growing my business and providing the best blooms I’m capable of growing!

Our discussion today is about taking action.
While we are all balancing many aspects of our lives, by taking one small step in the direction of our flower farming dreams is a good step!
No matter what our dreams may be….taking that leap of faith is an action in the most profound way!
Today I share the many beautiful variations of the humble sunflower 🌻
My husband does not care for Sunflowers- but I know a secret about them that he doesn’t know.
They are a truly versatile crop, dependable, beautiful and my clients love them!

Sunnydell Flower Farm is Enthusiastically entering into 2025 with a week of prompts from .
These tasks are meant to inspire us flower lovers and growers to define our goals for our upcoming season.
Today’s task is this:
Write down 1-3 goals that inspire me for the year ahead.
🍃creating a growing strategy to be able to offer blooms earlier in the season.
🍃diversify my business to offer bouquets for smaller events.
My biggest growing challenge is our altitude.
Our altitude combined with our upslope winds from the Rocky Mountains and the Palmer Divide create a microclimate which at times is exhausting as a flower farmer.
I push on with a dedicated growing mindset and our Greenhouse!

As we walk among the fallen petals of our lives let us not forget to notice all of the burgeoning buds of possibility.
While at times I personally find myself leaning into what was with a tad bit of a melancholy spirit, the garden of life reminds to think otherwise!
These glorious, vibrant Camellia sings of hope, promise, joy, productivity and beauty.
It’s our New Year to shine!
Let’s remind ourselves to bloom with our own unique beauty and joy!

Camellias throughout the month of December!
Who knew…
Seems a bit strange to me…as you can see we have left our cold Winter nest for milder temperatures during this month.
Although we have had frosty temperatures in Alabama, yet Camellias continue to bloom.
Which reminds me of this.
If flowers can bloom in Winter so can we!
Let’s live our dreams, think outside of the box.
Our lives are not a dress rehearsal.
We are meant to be all that God designed us to be!

Disney World 2024!
Truly a magical delight around every corner.
We spent 4 joy filled days with our darling Alabama family as thrill seekers on some of the most precious and terrifying attractions.
Viewing Disney through our mature eyes and the hearts of our grandchildren was an amazing experience for us.
Our grandchildren found delight in every character, ride, confection and souvenir.
These memories will now be tucked away in my heart forever!

🌲Walk with me virtually through our early Winter Wonderland!
🌲I’m hooked on nature- even as a child I found profound joy and energy in the wheat fields of gold, frozen lakes and rivers etched delicately with frosty snowflake shaped designs.
🌲Nature-beautiful, awe inspiring and precious.
Nature-is healing and reduces our stress.
🌲Even viewing nature by looking out a window or photos activates specific reward circuits in our brains associated with dopamine release giving us a sense of purpose, joy and energy to pursue our goals.
🌲I hope you enjoyed our walk as much as I did.

It would be remiss of me not to give our appreciation and recognition for all of the brave veterans around the world.
Thank you for serving our great country.
We are forever grateful for the sacrifices you make/made throughout your life.

Also I’m mentioning a few of the contributions of my own family.
Our family roots are based in dedication and preservation of the USA.
My dear Fathers military records and his WWII uniform are safely tucked away in a special container in our home as is the American Flag that was placed over his casket before his burial.
(He received a beautiful military service complete with taps on a cold winter day in February of 1993.)
My Aunt Madge served as a RN in WWII.
We currently have a son-in-law (Major Brandon Kiss,)who is in Lt.Colonel School.
My son Charles.
Son-in-law Preston.
Grandfather Charles Jenkins

Sadly my homegrown blooms are all gone.
However not all is lost-with hope many things are possible.
So I took my hope with me to the market.
Purchased these gorgeous roses, seeded eucalyptus and added dried allium from my gardens.
“Hope springs eternal.”

Gardeners this collection of Dahlias and thoughts are just for you, while of course everyone who might see this please enjoy!
We know how gardening soothes an anxious soul.
Working the earth, dirt under nails and sunshine warming our backs is like a personalized massage from Mother Nature.
Gardeners witness the miracles of the seasons, while giving a testimony to believing in sometimes the unbelievable.
Seemingly insignificant bulbs, microscopic seedlings, gnarled tubers give birth to hope, faith and the power of a can do attitude.
Faith grows in stems that should break-but don’t.
In blooms that shouldn’t bloom-but do.
The struggle is real, failures are inevitable, doubt swirls around like wind.
Yet as I write this seeing is believing!
Wishing you a weekend of gracious joy and faith in all the miraculous possibilities that await you!

Truly Fall is in the air… that wispy tinge of chilled air that arrives in a poofy puff of air decided to stay all day.
The forest and field creatures feel it too.
We see deer signs in our gardens.
It appears baby deer have developed a sophisticated pallet for my red and white Hollyhocks.
(I truly adore this and would probably hand feed them any bloom that they fancied ☺️♥️
But wait there is good news!
These pillowy Dahlias are not to their liking…so…
The bees still have their blanket petals to snuggle into!
