πΊπΈπ Important Dawgz Update ππΊπΈ
Well folks, Heart of Texas Dawgz has temporarily found itself parked at the intersection of government regulations and hot dogs.
My mobile food vendor permit just happened to come up for renewal on June 4, right as Texas rolled out its new statewide mobile food vendor registration system. I've submitted my renewal application and am currently waiting to find out exactly what comes next, including whether I need another inspection and what additional fees may be involved.
To say the new fees have increased would be an understatement. For a small operation like mine, the costs have gone from a minor speed bump to something more closely resembling a road construction project. The upside is that once everything gets sorted out, the new system should allow me much more freedom to travel and operate in other communities without having to navigate a maze of local permits.
For now, though, I'm in a holding pattern. Until the state provides clarification and lets me know exactly what hoops need to be jumped through, I won't be able to accept bookings, schedule events, or do any pop-up sales.
As Ronald Reagan famously joked, "The nine most terrifying words in the English language are: I'm from the government, and I'm here to help." I have a feeling a few mobile food vendors around Texas are smiling at that one right now.
In all seriousness, I'm confident the kinks will get worked out and the process will become much clearer in the coming weeks. Unfortunately, my renewal just happened to arrive right in the middle of the transition.
I appreciate everyone's patience, support, and understanding. I promise I'm just as eager to get back behind the cart as you are to get a hot dog in your hand.
I'll keep everyone updated as I learn more.
