The making of the Engage!26 Maui welcome video! 🌴🌺🚲🏄♀️🍹We had so much fun creating this promo to hype up the start of Rebecca Grinnals+Kathryn Arce, showcasing the beautiful The Ritz-Carlton Maui, Kapalua property, and wanted to share a little bit of the bts 🎥
1. We chose to spice up the intro with an abstract sequence of pov shots, something that reads “arrival,” without giving too much away. We mounted a camera to a suitcase to get the perspective of rolling up to check in. Ironically, there was no rolling involved, because the floors were tiled (imagine the shakiest footage 🙄), so Grant actually lifted and spun the suitcase while I held on. Despite needing countless takes to get it right, our marriage endured.
2. When we think of Hawaii we think surfing, right? Paige from Team Engage + T P D DESIGN HOUSE braved the rip currents and made our dreams of a surfing sequence come true. Along with Jason from the surf shack. He digs a mean hole. I specifically loved Paige’s yellow set - a perfect match to the exquisite branding you can always expect from TPD.
3. Next, it’s time for the grand reveal of The Ritz-Carlton Maui, Kapalua. When attendees get theirs hands on the attendee guide for the first time is when things get real, so we loved using the page flip as a transition to showcase the hero view of the pool and lobby.
4. We actually filmed the bike pov shot the day before and felt like we could really use a drone shot of someone actually riding. Enter our pal Sarmiento Media | Destination Wedding Videographer who rode that bike up and down the hill till we got the perfect take. Our favorite fun fact is the top-down beach shot that follows was actually filmed in 2019 during our honeymoon on Maui. A little Easter egg just for us (and now you).
5. Time spent by the pool easily became everyone’s favorite way to spend downtime. With team efforts from shira savada | shiramisu on gift styling, Carly Robbins on model swimming, and Emily Coyne Events on graceful piña colada sipping, we had the perfect pool sequence to end the video. The last shot being the iconic Ritz logo married with the Engage logo - a perfect fit.
