The glassy wings sharp shooter! A invasive pest that wrecks havoc on over 300 plants species including grapes, almonds, citrus, and ornamentals!

They are sap suckers drinking the fluids of the plants causing major water loss which leads to diseases and can sometimes be fatal to the trees.

But fear not because you’re most feared species is on it! Wasps! Particularly parasitic wasps which you mostly likely rarely encounter especially if you living in suburbs or big cities due to the chemical nature of your environment.

So if you see this bug know it’s a pest and know that it has predators and not every critters needs to have a chemical answer to deal with it.

Healthy ecosystems take care of themselves sometimes those ecosystems need a little help! And something you can do is get rid of your bright spot lights that many many many of you have on all nightlong is attracting pests like the sharp shooter while simultaneously killing your beneficial pollinators and assassins.

So just know that for every action you take there is a reaction or consequence of that choice. Stop treating nature the way you treat your bodies do not treated your gardens symptoms! Learn, educate, and take action to preserve our ecosystems.

Moths Under Moonlight is one of the most unique experiences we've ever offered at Monarch Ranch Butterfly Conservatory.

As the gardens fall quiet and the sun disappears, an entirely different world wakes up!

Join Sean Reid of Monarch Ranch and Zach Steinhauser of Carolina Safari Co. as we explore the fascinating nighttime insects most people never notice. Watch moths, beetles, and other nocturnal creatures arrive under specialized lighting while learning about their life cycles, behavior, ecology, and importance to our South Carolina ecosystems.
