This Weekend at Cylburn: A Short Story in "Wait, You Did What?"
Let’s set the scene: The sun is shining, the birds are chirping... and someone has set up a full massage tent and another group is tossing confetti like it's a wedding in the south of France.
This weekend, our staff had the pleasure (read: challenge) of reminding guests that Cylburn is a botanic garden, not your cousin's backyard BBQ. Some highlights:
• Countless games of ball, badminton, soccer, football, and general object-throwing.
• Kids in trees (again, again, and again).
• A father-son trail ride attempt—shut down.
• A rogue balloon soaring to freedom (they're not allowed—confetti isn’t either).
• Not one but two stealthy photo shoots.
• A repeat offender off-leash doggo (yes, we remember you from last fall).
And of course: The massage tent. At 7:11 PM.
So, let’s clear something up: Cylburn is not a regular park—it’s a botanic garden. That means:
• We’re a living museum of plants—botanically diverse, professionally curated, and mission-driven.
• Our grounds support education, conservation, and a deep appreciation of the connection between people, plants, and the planet.
• The rules aren’t to ruin your fun—they’re to protect the plants, wildlife, and everyone’s experience here.
We love that you love Cylburn. But we need your help in respecting what makes this space special. That means no balloons, no confetti, no off-trail adventures, no surprise spa services, and yes—permits really are a thing.
Thanks for keeping it classy Baltimore, and fun for everyone.
