In Her Own Words: A Valentine for Edgar Allan Poe: Virginia Poe was Edgar Allan Poe's devoted wife (and first cousin.) Though widely believed to be the inspiration for Poe's writing and recurring themes of dark beauty and doomed devotion, only one piece of writing from his wife survives: an acrostic Valentine to Edgar in 1846, less than a year before she would die at the age of 24.

Listen to a special recording of Virginia's own love words to her husband, then join us for a graveside chat with Dean Knight of the Poe Museum (Richmond) for a talk about the marriage of Edgar Allan Poe to Virginia, including Edgar's proposal of marriage. Log on to Facebook Live, https://www.facebook.com/PoeBaltimore/ or YouTube, https://www.youtube.com/c/poebaltimore.

The Virginia Poe Bicentennial is presented by Poe Baltimore, Westminster Hall & Burying Ground, Maryland Women's Heritage Center, the Poe Cottage at Fordham (Bronx, NYC,) with generous help and participation from Poe Studies Association, The Edgar Allan Poe Society of Baltimore and The Poe Museum (Richmond.)

We know a lot about Edgar Allan Poe, but not as much about his wife Virginia. Over the next few months, the Edgar Allan Poe House and Museum / Poe Baltimore will present several programs that will explore her life. The Maryland Women's Heritage Center is also be a partner in this series. You can see the story at the Westminster Hall & Burying Ground from the warmth of your home in this LIVE virtual presentation Sunday January 30 at 7:00 p.m.
Edgar Allan Poe famously claimed the "death of a beautiful woman" the most poetical subject in the world. The prolonged suffering of his beautiful, dying wife, Virginia Poe (1822 - 1847,) almost certainly inspired this belief. Muse, poetess, child bride, daughter of Baltimore, Virginia Poe remains one of the most enigmatic and controversial figures in the famed author's history. Commemorating the 200th birthday of Edgar Allan Poe's beloved wife, the Virginia Poe Bicentennial will include monthly virtual and in-person programs including grave-side chats, hidden history, discussion series, and exhibits. Poe Baltimore is joining with Westminster Hall & Burying Ground, Maryland Women's Heritage Center, and the Poe Cottage at Fordham for a year-long series of discussion and events. Thank you for hosting these festivities! We had a great time :D
We would like to know more about the tomb of John O'Donnell. More particularly if he and his family members are still buried there. There is an older publication which states that all remains were re-interred at Greenmount cemetery, but they don't have any record of such. John O'Donnell is a direct ancestor of my wife. How do we get in contact with someone of the caretakers who might know something more about this, and who has access to the tomb (key), since there is a simple padlock on the door ?
how can I get a tour?
