Teens! The four classes went excellently and everyone at tonight's class seemed to want more. We talked about the possibility of some of you competing in the newcomer and Bronze-level divisions at the Seattle Star Ball in a month, and here's the info:
• Latin events (which is what you'd be doing) will be on Friday August 2nd from about noon-5pm.
• It's $20/person to get in the door for that session, and another $75/couple to register for an event. Prices go up slightly if a couple registers after July 15.
• There are three possible divisions that you guys could consider competing in: 1) Newcomer - Cha Cha, 2) Bronze - Cha Cha/Rumba, 3) Silver - Cha Cha/Rumba/Samba. You can register for two sequential events if you want, so a couple could do both Newcomer and Bronze, or Bronze and Silver. As you compete in higher levels you not only compete in more dances, but the expected skill level goes up.
• The age divisions available are Pre-Teen (0-11), Junior (12-15) & Youth (16-18). A younger couple can compete up in age division if they want, or they can compete in two consecutive divisions, but you can only enter into two total Latin events during the competition. (For example, a 15 y/o couple could compete in Bronze Junior & Bronze Youth, but not Bronze Junior, Silver Junior, and Bronze Youth.)
If anyone wants more info, ask away!
It would be awesome to see a bunch of you guys compete, and we would definitely prepare you well for the competition. Also, if you want to stick around for the evening events you can see top-level professional and amateur competitors, many of whom are far better at ballroom than most of what you see on So You Think You Can Dance?, for example. It's a lot of fun to watch and very inspiring to watch as a dancer!
