Useful info from our friends at ATX Safer Streets...
"Our parking survey results are in, and we are going over the data.
One of the things we found is that people are unaware of the city's policies regarding overnight parking at a meter. The majority of respondents did not know:
- Next Day Parking options are available at every Austin parking meter after midnight.
- The City of Austin will not tow you from a metered space, even if you haven't paid (except on 6th st between Red River and Brazos after 9pm on Thursday/ Friday/ Saturday night).
- If you do not purchase Next Day Parking and you are ticketed, the ticket can be dismissed if you can prove you got a sober ride home.
If you are a regular in East Austin, please be sure to tell your friends: you do NOT have to move your car out of a metered spot if you feel you've had too much to drink. Austin's Know Before You Go program can be found here:"
