Let’s have a little real talk, hotel and boutique friends.
There seems to be this quiet hesitation when it comes to working with micro influencers, and I get it. You’ve worked hard to build your brand, protect your image, and invest your marketing dollars wisely. But let’s unpack what’s actually being offered here.
Most micro influencers fall in the range of about 5,000 to 50,000 followers. Not millions. Not viral-for-no-reason content. These are niche, engaged audiences who actually listen, trust, and book based on what they see.
And here’s the part that’s often misunderstood. The majority of these creators are not asking for large payouts. They’re typically asking for a one-night stay in exchange for content. One night. In an industry where it’s standard to allocate around 8 to 10 percent of annual revenue toward marketing, this isn’t even scratching the surface. It’s not even a fraction of that spend.
In many cases, they’re also willing to extend their stay at a media rate. So not only are you getting content, visibility, and exposure, you’re still generating revenue on the backend.
Now let’s talk value.
What micro influencers bring to the table is perspective. They create content that feels lived-in, not staged. It’s the kind of storytelling that makes someone say, “I can see myself there.” That’s powerful. That’s what drives bookings today.
And let’s be honest, the return on investment has potential to stretch far beyond that one night. A well-shot reel, a thoughtful review, or a strategic series of posts can live online indefinitely, continuing to bring eyes to your property long after checkout.
So the question becomes, what’s the real risk?
Because from this side, it looks less like risk and more like an opportunity that’s being overlooked.
This isn’t about giving something away for free. It’s about making a smart, low-lift marketing decision that aligns with how people actually discover and choose where to stay in today’s world.
Curious to hear your thoughts. What has held you back from saying yes to micro influencer collaborations?
