Hey guys, Kiyonna here!
It has been many moons since I introduced myself and shared my journey of starting What's the Spill Bartending on Wheels. It all started with a leap of faith and the unwavering support of my amazing mother who encouraged me to enroll in bartending school back in 2017.
I was at a sort of crossroads in my life, and it was something that had always interested me. After weighing the different options, it seemed like the perfect way to reenergize my career prospects.
Halfway through the course I realized that it was one of the best decisions I've ever made. Apart from the practical skills and knowledge of all kinds of drinks, producing cocktails is an art form and soulfully creative. While it can be a lot of fun, there's nothing quite as satisfying as seeing your customer's happy smiles when you serve them something out-of-the-ordinary.
Besides learning how to think on my feet, make a variety of drinks in different situations, and slowly becoming the perfect creative outlet for me—it also gave me the confidence to take risks and build relationships.
When 2020 hit and COVID-19 changed everything, I suddenly found myself uncertain of what my future held, but instead of giving up, I chose to look at this as a chance to make something great out of nothing. With determination and resilience, I decided to take advantage of every opportunity that came my way until finally achieving success—which brings us to today!
Now, nearly six years later, I am proud to say that I have accomplished what I set out to do: share the love of my craft for others to enjoy. It hasn't been easy but nothing worth having ever is! My advice would be: don't give up if you face any bumps along the way—instead use them as motivation to keep pushing forward until you meet your goal.
With each day, I am reminded of why I chose this path: because it brings out the best version of myself—strong, determined and ready to take on anything!
