As today marks Navroz/ Nowruz, the start of the Persian New Year - it seemed fitting to share a piece of Persian wedding tradition, the Sofreh Aghd.
The Sofreh consists of many items with special symbolic meaning- one being the Ayneye- Bakht/ Ayeeneh ( Mirror) which represents the light and brightness of the married couple’s future. A beautiful aspect to this tradition is marked with the first glance the groom takes of his bride and the couple looking into the mirror together as a start to their marriage. Shamdoon ( candles) also illuminate the mirror and symbolize clarity and energy in the couple’s life together.
Cultural traditions from around the world have always found a home here- curiosity, adventure, the beauty of the lives around us- so many to learn from 🌺
So here’s to the start of Spring.. culture, traditions, and Love!
