The cold hardy variety also known as the Voodoo lily is hands down my favorite plant I own. I often use this plant as a test for clients to see how FUNKY of a gardener they are. This shade loving plant sends up a bloom that wreaks of rotting meat for just a FEW days but the leaf spike is straight out of Jurassic park. The stem has maroon leopard spots and wide umbrella like palmate leaf. The Foliage is such a stunner and demands attention in the garden. I was willing to pot up 5 babies in the stand for the ones who dare to explore this amazing plant. The leaf spikes are JUST now showing themselves which is an INCREDIBLE test of PATIENCE for gardeners.

So this patio not only look like it had dinosaurs hiding in it, it had some living fossils thriving and escaping their enclosure. This i fossil is call horsetail reed, the structure of the plant is so simple that it multiplies and spreads in EVERY inch of soil available. No leaves, no seeds, just stalks of plant doom!!! We were able to tackle this project removing brush, horsetail reed,and English ivy that escaped its planter. There was also layers of thick plastic that was removed (it OBVIOUSLY didn't stop the weeds) and layed down a layer of THICK cardboard and THICK mulch to suppress any existing sprouts. The cardboard and mulch will break down to feed our microbes and worms for excellent soil to feed future plants .

So we are a little later this week on getting the flowers in the stand and admittedly we did a family day at the water park(it was much needed in the heat)
Speaking of heat we decided to put out limited quantities out in the stand at a time to better monitor the quality as the temperatures continue to soar. We are about 50% grown as we try to combat the future venisen......

So when doing a continuous line of plantings such as a privacy screening it's a good idea to alternate in clusters. This prevents the transference of pests and diseases from attacking the whole line at once and provides more interest in the garden

Let's talk about 'Stuttgart' canna lilies

So this unique beauty is one of my absolute favorite shade loving plants! This plant has a medium pace of clumping and creates a decent grove. growing about 7 ft tall and has salmon blooms that hummingbirds love. If you love something different I had acquired this specimen YEARS ago and have never seen it in the local markets again. There are 3 in the stand but I still have a few in my personal stash if you need more.
