Looking for a wedding officiant? Think we only stand up at your wedding and talk for 20 minutes? Think my starting price of $275 is too much for that? Read on...

A CONVERSATION ABOUT PERCEIVED VALUE:

A customer asked a contractor friend of mine how much it would cost to do this project. My friend gave him a proposal: $4500.

The customer responded, "That’s seems really high."

My friend asked, "What do you think is a reasonable price for this job?"

The customer answered, "$2500 maximum."

My friend responded, "Ok, then I invite you to do it yourself."

The customer answered, "I don't know how to."

My friend responded, "Alright, then how about for $2500 I'll teach you how to. So besides saving you $2000, you'll learn valuable skills that will benefit you in the future."

The customer answered, "Sounds good! Let’s do it!"

My friend responded, "Great! To get started, you are going to need some tools. You will need a chop saw, table saw, cordless drill, bit set, router, skill saw, jig saw, tool belt, hammer, etc."

The customer answered, "But I don't have any of those tools and I can't justify buying all of these for one job."

My friend responded, "Ok. Well then for an additional $300 I can rent my tools to you to use for this project."

The customer answered, "Okay. That’s fair."

My friend responded, "Great! We will start the project on Monday."

The customer answered, "I work Monday through Friday. I’m only available on the weekends."

My friend responded, "If you want to learn from me then you will need to work when I work. This project will take three days so you will need to take three days off work."

The customer answered, "That means I’m going to have to sacrifice my pay for three days or use my vacation time!"

My friend responded, "That’s true. Remember, when you do a job yourself you need to account for unproductive factors."

The customer answered, "What do you mean by that?"

My friend responded, "Doing a job completely from start to finish includes time spent to plan the project, pick up materials, travel time, gas, set up time, clean up, and waste disposal amongst other things. That’s all in addition to the actual project itself. And speaking of materials, that’s where we will start on Monday so I need you to meet me at the lumberyard at 6:00 a.m."

The customer answered, "At 6:00 a.m.?!! My work day doesn’t usually start until 8:00 a.m.!"

My friend responded, "Well then you’re in luck! My plan is to start on the deck build by 8:00 a.m. But to do so we have to start at 6:00 a.m. to get materials picked up, loaded and delivered to your job site."

The customer answered, "You know, I’m realizing that a lot more goes into a job than what a customer sees in the finished project. Your proposal of $4500 is very reasonable. I would like you to handle the project."

CONCLUSION:

When you pay for a job, especially a custom job, (whether it’s a physical project or digital project) you pay not only for the material and the work to be completed. You also pay for:

✔️ Knowledge

✔️ Experience

✔️ Custom Skills

✔️ Tools

✔️ Time to plan

✔️ Time to prepare

✔️ Professionalism

✔️ Work Ethic

✔️ Excellence

✔️ Discipline

✔️ Commitment

✔️ Integrity

✔️ Licenses

✔️ Sacrifices

If you request a proposal for custom work to be done, please don’t disrespect a service provider by trying to get them to lower their prices.

If their proposal exceeds your budget, there’s nothing wrong with getting other proposals.

Remember... you get what you pay for.

👉🏼 SERVICE PROVIDERS: Know your worth and be confident in it.

👉🏼 CONSUMERS: Recognize their worth and be respectful of it.

Yesterday was a first. I was late to a wedding that I was officiating. I am so embarrassed!

That's right, the wedding can't start without me. Therefore, I left early enough to be at the venue a whopping 45 minutes early, like I always do. I got about 10 minutes from my house, on I-26, and got caught in stopped traffic. The interstate was closed due to a horrific car crash. Parts of at least 3 cars were scattered across 3 lanes of traffic. One car upside down. One with a shattered windshield. One had been on fire. Several other cars were in the mix among the carnage. Lots of people standing on the side of the road. It didn't look like anyone was hurt, no ambulances that I could see. But Lord, it gives you perspective.

I hated being late to this wedding. I hate that I let the bride and groom down. But they got married, in a field of grapevines in the foothills of NC, by a pond, under an arbor, with 30 or so of their favorite people in attendance sitting in little white chairs. On a 95 degree June afternoon, with dark thunder clouds in the sky, humidity of 210%, and flying bugs so thick you couldn't see the person you were talking to. You really had to keep the talking to a minimum or you would have bugs in your mouth.

But they said "I do" and kissed, despite the bugs. And I got home safely to my family.

In the end, that's all that really matters.

PS--I didn't get any pics of the venue because the bugs were too thick. Pic below of my view of traffic while sitting on the interstate for an hour plus.

"Thank you so much for your help for being a part of our perfect wedding. LuAnne was very patient with me, and my nerves. Very accommodating, she was a big part of making it happen smoothly. Traveling at last minute. Making the perfect ceremony that my whole family loved. I would refer her to everyone I meet."

Review from a recent bride, Adaleta May. I have to admit, I cried! This is exactly how I always want my couples to feel about what I do for them. Thank you, Della and Bailey, for the complete honor of being your officiant!

"10000 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
We are beyond grateful for our officiant — she was truly everything we hoped for and more. From the start, her communication was clear, responsive, and reassuring, which made the whole process so smooth and stress-free. She was always kind, patient, and thoughtful, making us feel completely comfortable and heard.

She was incredibly timely and organized, which made a huge difference during such a busy time. When it came to writing our ceremony script, she absolutely nailed it — her words were meaningful, heartfelt, and captured us perfectly. Most importantly, she really took the time to listen to our wishes, and it showed in every detail of the ceremony.

And on the day of — wow. She even stopped by my bridal suite just 20 minutes before I walked down the aisle, right in the middle of a full-blown panic attack, just to offer the most calming, grounding words. That moment meant everything to me. She brought such peace and care when I needed it the most.

Thanks to her, our ceremony felt so personal, emotional, and unforgettable — it was truly magical. If you’re looking for someone who will treat your love story with care and intention, look no further. She’s a gem. We will never forget her and the special moment she gave us ! 💍✨"

Recent story...As an officiant, I pull up to the gate at the country club, I roll down the window, and the guard asks, "Funeral or wedding?" No joke! That's never happened before!

From an officiant who has seen it all, a few tips:
1. Make-up setting spray: use it! You're gonna cry. Period.
2. If you use fake flowers: use the good ones, not the ones from Dollar Tree.
3. Bring your wedding license to your wedding. Period.
4. Kiss more than a peck so your photographer can get the pic!

That is all.
