Yesterday evening at sunset, Jewish communities around the world welcomed Rosh Hashanah—the beginning of the new year. Here at UUCA, we especially hold in our hearts Kol Ami, who as a Jewish community have nested in our congregation for more than 25 years.

It is a season for reflection amid the sweetness of life. This year, we recognize the weight of grief in our world alongside the hope for renewal that the holiday brings.

May this Rosh Hashanah be a time of compassion, courage, and peace.

Resisting injustice is not new for Unitarian Universalists (UUs). We have a deep history of activism. However, the foundations of our democracy are under attack, and our world continues to face significant challenges, including racism, sexism, classism, ableism, genderism, ageism, heterosexism, and other harmful “isms” that control and destroy lives. What can we do? We must resist! How can we take action? Let’s discuss what it means to be a people of resistance.

Today marks the first Mosaic Sunday of the 2025-2026 church year, and we will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month through words, music, and song. Additionally, please stay after the service for the UUCA Social Justice Fair.

If we're open to it, we receive many gifts from our participation in congregational life—but the real trick is to learn to pass those gifts on. Rev. Amanda will explore the paradox of intentional community, which both helps us to build friendships and then asks us to look beyond those friendships toward the greater whole. Or in other words, church is not for you...it's for us. Join us to think about how UUCA can build the muscles of social contract so needed in the world today.

After worship, join us for the Faith Fair in the Reeb Center! This Sunday is the second in our 3 Weeks of Welcome, a three-part series honoring our mission statement: Come For Community, Find Inspiration, Live With Purpose.

Like streams flowing from many places into one sacred well, the water we poured together reflects the beauty of our shared faith—diverse in source, united in spirit. At UUCA, we are deeply grateful for a community that comes together with love at the center.

We can’t wait to live our mission with you and celebrate our faith together. Joining us in-person tomorrow? The parking lot may get busy — keep reading for our tips to help make parking easier as we "Come for Community!"

And don't forget: worship starts at 10:15am every Sunday, both in-person and online!

If you are able-bodied and not traveling with children, please consider parking at one of our external lot options. These include:

a) Park across George Mason Dr in the Masonic Lodge parking lot (use this address in your GPS: 1 S. George Mason Dr, Arlington, VA 22204),

b) Park on the street in the neighborhood or along George Mason Dr,

c) Park at Arlington Hall West Park and follow the trail to 1st Pl S and UUCA.

Or, find a friend (or two) who lives nearby and arrange to carpool to church together. This not only will free up space in the parking lot, but also supports climate activism!
