✨Plant Pigment Water Color Sets Available ✨

This is a great Christmas gift for the artist in your life. Each palate is carefully crafted with pigment extracted from plants 🌱🌻🌺

Here’s the process —> I make a dye bath out of a natural dyestuff —> use the dye bath to dye fibers —> take the remaining dye bath and use chemistry to create a pigment (a process that takes several days) —> once the pigment is dried —> I make a water color binder —> then I add the pigment + the water color binder —> dole it out in the cutie little water color holders —> label each set —> and voila! You have a water color set created from nature ✨🌿🌺

❄️Snow Day Science Experiment 🧪 🧫❄️

We took this opportunity to use the dried Hopi Dye Sunflower seeds we grew this season, and test their pH sensitivity. Honestly, I thought they’d be a bit more reactive to pH changes, but that’s why you experiment!!

Hopi dye sunflowers are rich in anthocyanins, a compound found in nature which is pH sensitive. This is why we were able to shift the color of the dye.

We used white vinegar to make the dye more acidic, and baking soda to make the dye more basic.

I’m enjoying the slowness of winter and the ability to do experiments like this with dyestuffs I’ve harvested and preserved from summer ☀️

Does anyone know why/ how my goldenrod + iron pigment dried in these spirals?

I’ve been admiring this detail for a while now. But not sure why/ how it happened.
