Clemson Extension Service introduction to homesteading class is part of a three-part series with this being the 3rd and final installment.

The introduction to homesteading class is intended for landowners and others interested in homesteading as an informative class to guide prospective homesteaders. Topics include basic livestock handling, Homestead Produce 101: Produce selection, Planting Dates, and Soil Sampling. Refreshments will be provided

Pre-registration is required to participate.
Please pre-register by Thursday, January 16, 2023 if you plan to attend. The workshop will be held at the Embark Church in Orangeburg

The Savannah Valley Livestock Judging Team is working hard over Christmas Break. Today we visited Sheppard Farms in Sylvania, Ga. The team practiced evaluating bulls and heifers, gave oral reasons, and learned more about the beef industry.

Livestock judging allows youth to build teamwork, communication skills, analytical thinking, and confidence. Youth will learn how to evaluate livestock against the ideal animal and vocally justify their decision. Owning livestock is not a requirement and is open to all youth 9-18.
