JD Fielding / Photographer

JD Fielding / Photographer Internationally published portrait, product, commercial, and event pro photographer.

As a photographer I have had the opportunity to do many things that I wouldn't have probably done otherwise. From sharing private moments with brides and grooms, to precious moments with children and babies. There has been corporate and sporting events like the Transitions Championship on the PGA Tour, and awesome moments on stage with musicians from local celebs like Skeeter Creek to the band Boston and Country Music superstar Kellie Pickler. Not to mention the countless faces in bars and clubs, festivals, and car shows. I've also worked behind the scenes as a still photographer on the set of indie film, 'THIRSTY' which is also due to release in Fall of 2015, whose cast includes Deirdre Lovejoy from HBO's 'The Wire, 'Step Up', and 'The Talented Mr. Ripley' Most recently, and with much pride I have teamed up with good friend and author, Phil Massaro for some book and magazine ventures. You can see some of that work in publications like Gun Digest the Magazine, "The Shooter's Guide To Reloading", Gun Digest 2015 69th Edition, Modern Shooter, Guns & Ammo Safari, the Journal of Safari Club International (due 2014) and African Expedition (due Oct 2014) and an ebook by Phil 'How To Reload Ammo' Basically, I've been all over the map when it comes to what I do, and I don't think it's too bad of a resume if you ask me. Photography happened. It wasn't something I set out to do, but it is something that found me, developed me (pun intended) and has ultimately set me on a path that I could have never imagined myself to be on. I love it. I'm currently taking a hiatus from the wedding photographer world, and focusing on the passion behind the photography again. Doing my own thing, at my own pace, and on my terms. Peace.

PSA: Doing too much ruins the energy of a good photo. I see some of you out here killing good ops with your petty expectations.

There was a time when I shot what I saw, and shot from all different angles. I wanted to be different...actually, I didn't know HOW to be..I just was. But, then I got really caught up with the "industry standards" and lost myself a little.

People loved my photos, and always wanted me to shoot for them. I worked to meet the "standards" while trying to maintain my own style. But, eventually the "industry" took over. Sh*t, I barely ever changed my aperture in pursuit of the most shallow depth of field. But, in essence I feel like I lost some of what it was that I saw. But, people liked it.

I went on like this for quite a few years, and soon I became weary, and bored, and treated my photography like a set of handcuffs. It was undoubtedly a bad relationship. One that was draining my passion for the craft, and allowed toxicity and resentment in the work I did. I decided I was done. But, it took way too long, and too much time invested in gear and travel, and trying to meet the "standard".

COVID-19 got me tucked away, and enjoying my life organically and away from the influence of those standards. I still have moments where those "standards" will be necessary. But, you better believe that you will see more of who I used to be behind the lens. Because, I really DO love photography. But, I love it for how it helps me share MY vision. And, that's why you'll see more of this, and less of that from now on. I am still out for hire, but very selectively.

Seems like too much commentary for a simple photo like this. But, I don't know...this is what I used to do. Post a photo and ramble. I liked that. I loved that, and that's what made me the photographer I am. Click.

It's been awhile since I played this way. Maybe time to challenge myself again... 🤔

I have a million and one things to work on, and for some reason tonight my creativity felt challenged, so I decided to challenge it back. Digging deep into the cluttery headspace where my brain resides I took a journey with PS 7 and took an image shot at sunset, and tweaked it and made it appear as if it were shot in the moonlight.

The manipulated end product has cured my appetite for something different, and we will now return to our regularly scheduled program.
