What do you know of fear, my sweet summer child?
Fear belongs to winter…
This winter in Ukraine, it no longer sounds like a quote from A Song of Ice and Fire. It sounds like reality.
The long night is blackout after blackout.
Four and a half hours of electricity a day.
The ice wind is the sound of missiles and sirens.
And the white walkers no longer feel like fantasy.
My generator barely keeps up.
Thankfully, I have a fireplace.
But honestly, I have lived through this winter in constant stress.
Tonight is the last truly cold night.
Starting tomorrow, the temperature will rise.
We have survived the harshest winter.
There will still be cold days, but not as severe.
And the light will return, not only to our homes, but to us.
