Driving Stakeholder Engagement in the Lead-Up to DronTech Asia 2025.

The DronTech Asia organising team visited the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security [Kementerian Pertanian dan Keterjaminan Makanan] for a coordination meeting with Puan Aina Azza binti Hj. Zaid, Undersecretary of the Division of Agricultural Modernisation (BPP), and her team to provide updates on the upcoming DronTech Asia 2025, taking place from 30 Sept – 2 Oct 2025 at MITEC.

The meeting served as a platform to brief the Ministry on the event’s progress and ongoing outreach, particularly in relation to the agricultural sector’s participation. Discussions also focused on highlighting the role of drone technology in smart farming and the importance of aligning with Malaysia’s agri-modernisation goals.

We sincerely thank Puan Aina Azza and her team for their thoughtful insights and constructive feedback. We look forward to further engagement as we work together to spotlight innovation in agricultural drone technology.

Drone Buzz: Malaysia Cracks Down on Open Burning

The Department of Environment is intensifying efforts to combat haze with both traditional and drone-assisted enforcement:

• 4,184 ground patrols and 645 drone flights conducted since the start of 2025
• 58 notices issued, 27 court cases filed, and 59 compounds imposed on offenders
• “We are intensifying daily patrols in high-risk areas while closely monitoring Air Pollutant Index (API) levels,” says DOE Director-General Datuk Wan Abdul Latiff Wan Jaffar

This is a clear demonstration of how drone technology is reshaping environmental enforcement, turning surveillance from reactive to proactive, and making real-time data count in protecting public health.

Drone Buzz: PRIME MINISTER ANNOUNCED DRONE EMPOWERMENT FOR COMMUNITIES UNDER SEJATI MADANI

In a special address this week, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim reaffirmed the government’s commitment to grassroots innovation, highlighting how communities can now leverage technology such as drones through the Sejati MADANI programme. Launched in 2024, Sejati MADANI provides grants of up to RM100,000 to local communities (JPKK, JKKK, and others) for projects that enhance agriculture, digitalisation, sustainability and livelihoods.

One of the most inspiring applications to date: In Kampung Tebuk Haji Dolah, the JPKK used their RM100,000 grant to purchase three Mist Lite drones for pesticide and fertiliser spraying. The impact:

> Spraying time reduced from 90 to 15 minutes per acre
> Cost lowered to RM25 per acre
> Surplus income redirected into the village’s food bank and welfare aid

This is a powerful case of how drone technology is no longer confined to corporations or agencies, it’s reaching the very heart of rural Malaysia.

We just concluded a productive progress briefing with Datuk Hanafi Sakri, Deputy Secretary General (Industry) of the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), Asniza Basri, Principal Assistant Director, Industry Development Division at MITI, and Ts. Ahmad Kamal Mohamad Lazi, Manager, Supply Chain & Technology Development from National Aerospace Industry Corporation Malaysia (NAICO Malaysia) Malaysia.

With just 91 days to go, we provided updates on the latest developments and key milestones as we move towards DronTech Asia 2025.
