🎸WORATEP RATTANA-UMPAWAN - live at AIGF 2026🎸

Woratep Rattana-umpawan began his guitar lessons when he was 12. he had been the First Prize Winner of Yamaha Guitar Festival Competition in Bangkok for three consecutive years from 1985-1987. He started taking classical guitar lessons seriously.

In 1987 he entered the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, Chulalongkorn University and got a B.A. with second class honors in Western Music majoring in Classical Guitar. With his talents and skills in performance, he was invited to play solo "Chao Phraya Concerto composed by Prof. Bruce Gaston in 1993.

Woratep was once again invited by one of the most famous musical institutions in Japan to perform in three recitals in April 2000.
And in November the same year, he had an opportunity to take a private lesson with Mr. Eduardo Fernandez, the world famous guitarist, when Mr. Fernandez was performing a concert in Bangkok. Mr. Woratep used to be Head of the Guitar Department at Chinatkarn Music School in 1991.

Moverover, he took part in founding the Bangkok Guitar Quartet and the Bangkok Guitar Society where he took the position of president. He founded 2008, together with Leon Koudelak, the Thailand Guitar Society where he took the position as CEO.
Woratep performs at international guitar festivals in many parts of the world and often in duo with Leon Koudelak. His works such as Guitar Lai Thai I, II are available on cassettes and CDs. Woratep is the first Thai classical guitarist who performed worldwide at Internationals Guitar Festivals and become the first Thai classical guitarist well-known in the world.

2010 Woratep Rattana umpawan was appointed as head of the guitar departement at the Rangsit University Music College.

Currently he teach at the guitar department of Peterson Music, Bangkok and is president of the Thailand Guitar Society.

Nalin graduated her Master Degree from College of Music, Mahidol University in 2003 and Bachelor Degree from Kasetsart University. Her teachers are Vidhaya Vosbein, Tawee Maneejaruthas, Kamol Achariyasart and Manrat Sangsawangwattana. She took masterclasses with Eduardo Fernandez, Timothy Kain, Hucky Eichelmann and Irma Costanzo She also received Performer’s Certificate (Guitar; 1994) and Licentiate Diploma (Guitar Performance; 1995) from Trinity College (London). Nalin was the second prize winner of Yamaha Guitar Festival 1994. Due to her passion in music, she changed from dentistry study at Chulalongkorn University to music study. She has appeared as a soloist with orchestra and also gave a regular solo and chamber music recital. Her works are CDs ‘Guitar Lai Thai I, II (Thai Traditional Music Arranged for Guitar). In 2007, 2016, 2018 – 20 she was awarded “Excellence in Music Teaching” of Trinity Award.

At present she is a guitar faculty at Young Artist Music Program, College of Music, Mahidol University and a committee of Thailand Guitar Society.

CGO (Classic Guitar Orchestra) - Founded in 2016, consists of alto cembalo, alto, prime, prime cembalo, bass, contra bass guitars and guitarron. With variety of sizes and sounds they are perfect combination in terms of dynamic, tone color and special effects. Encouraged by Mr. Sumio Kurosawa and Mr. Yuichi Imai to organize the orchestra. CGO now has 9 members. Nationalities are Thai, Japanese, and Italian. CGO intends to play concerto and orchestral music. Classical and popular music are also arranged to play.

Alto guitar (Violin1st&2nd) - The alto guitar is tuned a 5th higher than the prime (classical guitar) guitar. The short scale makes it possible to play high technique music. It is the most popular guitar in the guitar orchestra.
Prime guitar (Viola) - This is the traditional normal size guitar using nylon strings.

Bass guitar (Cello) - It is tuned a 4th lower than the prime guitar and 1 octave lower than the alto guitar. It takes an important part with the alto and prime guitar in a guitar orchestra. The rich sound with strong dynamic is attractive to the human heart.
Contrabass guitar (Double Bass) - As the contrabass guitar is tuned 1 octave lower than the prime guitar, it is possible for a player to use the same music scores. The length of the strings is the longest of the orchestral guitars. The rich sound with a hard core builds a bridge between the bass guitar and the guitarron. It pushes the sounds of the bass family to the back of concert halls.

Guitarron (Double Bass or Timpani) - The Guitarron is tuned 1 octave lower than the prime guitar. The strings are very thick, and the body is very big. The sound is so unique completely unlike the others. It is the most important guitar in a guitar orchestra because the rich and warm sound wraps the whole sound of the guitar orchestra in its deep bosom. It has the same range as the contrabass guitar. The dynamic style of playing attracts people's attention everywhere.

Alto cembalo Guitar – Alto guitar with steel strings. It is tuned a 5th higher than the prime guitar, and creates a splendid sound when played with needles. It is necessary to play baroque music. By changing the thickness of the needles and the position of play, even the sound of the mandolin and the zither can be created.
