Community in Aweil West County, Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, launched Initiative to Construct a blood bank

Community members in Aweil West county raised 5,200,000 SSP to fund the construction of a vital blood bank and operating theatre at their hospital.

This initiative comes after the hospital's upgrade last year highlighted the critical lack of a blood bank. Consequently, patients suffering from anemia had to be transferred to the state hospital for blood transfusions, and tragically, some lives were lost due to the delay.

The resource mobilization effort was spearheaded by community chiefs, youth leaders, and all community members.
Lino Duang, the Paramount Chief of Aweil West County, informed Akol Yam FM that construction is currently underway, and contributions are still being collected to ensure the project's completion.

Paramount quotes” The hospital has lacked a blood bank, which led to the loss of lives last year, especially pregnant women brought from rural areas. If referred here and there is no blood bank, they are transferred to Aweil. That is why we united as a community for this initiative”

Chief Duang is urging fellow chiefs to contribute their pledged amounts to complete this community-led project at the hospital, emphasizing that "blood saves lives.

The Nyamlel County Deputy Hospital Director confirmed the community's significant contribution to Akol Yam FM.
Lual Khamis Lual stated that the construction of the blood bank at the facility is in progress.
He added that this community-driven project will significantly improve access to blood at the hospital.

Deputy hospital director quote” Children and women will no longer lose their lives. Because if we have a blood bank, if a child is brought in with anemia, they can be immediately assessed, cross-matched, and receive the necessary blood transfusion”
