BREAKING NEWS: SUSPENSION OF BCYA-NIMULE ELECTIONS PROCESS.

Nimule, South Sudan – July 7, 2025

In a surprising development, the electoral processes for the Bor Community Youth Association (BCYA) – Nimule Chapter have been officially suspended until further notice, sources close to the organizing committee confirmed this afternoon.

The suspension was reportedly triggered by growing concerns over procedural irregularities, rising tensions among candidates, and unresolved disputes within the electoral committee. Community elders and association stakeholders have expressed alarm over what they described as "a volatile atmosphere that could jeopardize unity and transparency."

A statement expected to be released later today by the interim leadership is anticipated to outline the reasons for the halt, while calling for calm, dialogue, and a review of the electoral framework.

Multiple youth leaders and members have voiced frustration over the abrupt halt, urging for immediate mediation efforts to resume the democratic process. Some factions, however, welcomed the decision, citing the need to "restore credibility and ensure fair participation".

Security officials in Nimule have also reportedly been alerted as a precaution, though no incidents of violence have been confirmed at this time.

H.E President Salva Kiir Mayardit Relieves Gen. Paul Nang of Duties, Appoints Gen. Dau Aturjong as New SSPDF Chief of Defence Forces

Juba, South Sudan – July 7, 2025 – President Salva Kiir Mayardit has issued a Republican Decree relieving General Paul Malong Nang from his position as Chief of Defence Forces of the South Sudan People's Defence Forces (SSPDF). In the same decree, Gen. Dau Aturjong Nyuol has been appointed as the new Chief of Defence Forces.

The announcement was made through the state-owned South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC) on Monday evening. While no official reason was provided for the leadership change, the move is seen as part of ongoing efforts by the presidency to reorganize the top military command structure amid security challenges and efforts toward reforming the armed forces.

Gen. Dau Aturjong, a seasoned military commander and veteran of South Sudan’s liberation struggle, previously held key operational roles within the SSPDF and has been praised for his leadership in both wartime and peacetime operations. His appointment is expected to bring fresh energy and strategic direction to the SSPDF at a critical time for the country’s peace and security.

The outgoing Chief, Gen. Paul Nang, had served in the position since last year , and was a central figure in managing the country's military affairs during a turbulent period. The government has not yet announced his next assignment or retirement status.
