A Message to Senior Four Candidates, 2024 & 2025
By Kiir Abiel Chuol Lual
My brothers and sisters, let me talk to you today. Sit down, relax, and if you are eating kisra or asida right now, don’t worry, you can chew slowly as you read.
You know, I wanted to write to you immediately when your results came out, but I said, “No, let me first wait. Let me allow them to scream, to dance, to cry, to faint, to jump, to tear shirts, to eat goat meat at home, or to hide under a blanket in shame.” Because at that time, if I had written this article, you would not have taken me seriously. But now, your hearts have cooled a little, and I believe you can read.
To Those Who Passed..
Congratulations! You really did well. From Senior One up to Senior Four, you carried books heavier than jerricans of water. You fought with chalk dust every day, and you survived teachers who sometimes looked at you as if you were criminals But you made it. Clap for yourselves!
I can imagine the joy when you saw your results. Some of you shouted, “Mama, I made it!” Others danced until the neighbours thought you won a scholarship to America. It was a good day, wasn’t it?
But let me tell you something, I know you were not fully satisfied. You said, “Ah, if I had worked harder, I would have scored higher.” My friend, stop stressing yourself. Even that boy called Philip who scored 91.6% was not satisfied. Even Elon Musk, the richest man on earth with billions of dollars, still wakes up saying, “Ah, I need more.” That’s how life is, human beings are never satisfied.
So, please, be content. Thank God for what you got. At least you didn’t faint in the exam hall, you didn’t lose your index number, you didn’t run mad. God carried you through. I hope you remembered to take thanksgiving offering to church, if you didn’t, please this Sabbath or Sunday, don’t go empty-handed.
Now, a quick warning, University or college is next. Please, don’t rush to say, “Ah, now that I finished, let me get married.” No,
