Meaning of Nuer Scar Marks 🇸🇸
First scar mark:
This mark signifies the transition from boyhood to manhood (woc dhɔɔl). It teaches that one should no longer behave childishly, but instead act with maturity and responsibility as a man.
Second scar mark:
This mark represents fearlessness and independence. It means you have overcome adolescence and are expected to live independently, no longer relying on your parents for everything

Third scar mark:
This mark emphasizes honesty and moral conduct. You must not steal or engage in social misconduct such as scandals or theft. It also calls upon you to defend the community, land, and property, and to take responsibility for family and household affairs

This mark warns against greed, gluttony, and excessive desire. An initiated man should practice self-control and contentment

This mark strictly forbids adultery with another man’s wife and s*xual relations with close blood relatives. Such acts are considered in**st taboos and bring disgrace or severe consequences to the offender
