Baby Dau Atem has successfully undergone surgery in Nairobi, Kenya after being supported by the Manyang Disability Foundation

The young boy, who had a massive swelling on his face, first came to public attention after a relative shared a video of him on TikTok from a village in Warrap State.

Manyang Malet, the Australia-based founder of the Manyang Disability Foundation, stepped in with support from donors and arranged for the child to be brought to Juba for medical attention. However, doctors in Juba said the surgery could not be performed locally due to the seriousness of his condition.

The foundation later facilitated Dau’s transfer to Nairobi, where he underwent surgery today. Manyang confirmed on social media that the operation was successful, thanking God and the donors who contributed to making the treatment possible.

Director General of Juba Teaching Hospital says electricity restored after two-day blackout

Electricity has been restored at Juba Teaching Hospital following a two-day power outage that disrupted services at the country’s main referral facility.

Hospital Director General Gift Natana said the blackout happened after the hospital ran out of fuel for its generators due to a shortage of operational funds. He confirmed that fuel was secured last evening and that all medical services have since resumed as normal.

Gift added that the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Energy and Dams are working to ensure a more stable and reliable power supply for the hospital moving forward.

Brig. General Robert Anguei Mayom, popularly known as Mike Mike, has not been removed as commander of the Tiger Special Forces, a source within the Tiger Republican Guards headquarters has told Hot in Juba.

The clarification comes amid widespread social media speculation this morning claiming he had been relieved of his duties leading the elite unit tasked with protecting the president and other senior government officials.

According to the source, the reports circulating online are inaccurate.

Fuel prices surge after new cash-only tax policy at Nimule border

Fuel prices have sharply increased across South Sudan following a new directive by the South Sudan Revenue Authority under former Commissioner General William Anyuon requiring importers of fuel and other goods to pay taxes strictly in cash.

On Tuesday, fuel was selling between SSP 9,500 and SSP 10,000 per litre, up from the previous range of SSP 6,000 to SSP 7,900 per litre — marking a significant jump within days.

The policy shift has disrupted operations at the Nimule border point, with reports of a growing backlog of trucks unable to clear goods due to the cash payment requirement.

Previously, importers settled taxes through bank transfers. However, the move to enforce cash payments is widely believed to be linked to the country’s ongoing liquidity crisis, where the government reportedly receives tax payments in bank accounts but struggles to access physical cash due to shortages in commercial banks.

Traders warn that the spike in fuel prices is likely to push up the cost of other essential commodities as transport and supply chain expenses rise.

Juba Teaching Hospital reportedly out of power for over 52 hours

Juba Teaching Hospital has reportedly been without electricity for more than 52 consecutive hours, raising alarm among patients, medical staff and the wider public in the capital.

Sources within the hospital say the prolonged blackout has severely disrupted critical services, including oxygen supply, laboratory testing and other life-saving treatments that depend on stable power.

According to source on the ground, the situation is “heartbreaking,” as medical teams struggle to manage emergency cases without reliable electricity. Patients in need of oxygen support, urgent lab diagnostics and intensive care are said to be among the most affected.

Family members of patients have expressed fear and frustration, with some claiming lives may have been lost due to the power outage. However, hospital authorities have not yet issued an official statement confirming the number of patients affected or the cause of the blackout.

The power crisis at the country’s main referral hospital has sparked widespread concern on social media, with many citizens questioning the state of public services and accountability in the management of essential institutions.

As of publication, it remains unclear what caused the outage, whether backup generators are functional, and when electricity will be fully restored.

Efforts to reach hospital management and relevant government authorities for comment were ongoing.
