There will be a Peranakan Festival in Taiping, Perak from 3-5 July 2026! There will be Dondang Sayang performances, a Baba Nyonya Community Cultural Exhibition and also a traditional products bazaar. Drop us a message if you are keen to go explore this event and city as there will be special dinners and tours organised during the event too. Subject to availability.

Enjoy the song “Mari Gembira Bersama Baba Nyonya”, composed, written, arranged and sung by Alvin Oon. This original piece, crafted in Baba Malay, is inspired by the spontaneous joy of the Babas and Nyonyas whenever they gather as a community. It is always an informal celebration filled with laughter, dancing and singing.

The music is arranged in a modern keroncong style, echoing the timeless beauty of Indonesian influences, while weaving in delicate strains of dondang sayang reminiscent of old Melaka. Paired with Alvin’s warm, crooning vocal style, the song evokes romance and nostalgia while honoring tradition - a heartfelt tribute to heritage and memory.

Alvin continues to compose original Peranakan songs that resonate deeply with the Baba Nyonya community, ensuring the culture grows and evolves with each generation. As one of the probably few contemporary composers dedicated to promoting Baba Nyonya heritage through music, he keeps this vital art form alive, vibrant and relevant today.
