After a busy wedding season filled with long days and hard work, would you like a few days for yourself to relax and recharge?

How about this: a gathering in the mountains with a schedule that allows for quiet solitude as well as group fun, meaningful discussions, time to make connections, yummy food, nature hikes, stargazing and even hot tubbing if you want!

If that sounds like what you need right now, come to our Emerald Hour Member Retreat at the beautiful Tierra Retreat Center in Leavenworth, WA. We’re so excited to experience Tierra (one of our member venues) as guests, instead of wedding vendors!

Emerald Hour actually got its start at an intimate retreat like this back in 2022. Five of us gathered to dream big about how to shift the wedding industry towards greater sustainability. Over the course of a cozy weekend, we discussed issues for hours, but we also hiked, laughed, got to know each other, ate delicious food, and drank wine together. We left feeling inspired, motivated, grateful that we’d finally “found our people” and we’ve been heavily invested in this work ever since. Now we’d like to share this same kind of experience with all of our members.

Members can sign up for the retreat until November 1st.

At Emerald Hour, we’re dedicated to caring for the earth in lots of ways, not just through making weddings more sustainable.

And we love to get outside and help make things better in a real, hands on way.

So we’re organizing a group of members to participate in a volunteer work party restoring bird habitat along the Audubon Bird Loop at Marymoor Park in Redmond, WA on Saturday, June 7th from 9 am to 12 pm!

We’d love to have you join us! Just comment the word Bird and we’ll send you all the info!

We’re excited to highlight HopeChest and their amazing wedding rummage sale happening THIS SUNDAY!

HopeChest is Seattle’s Original Wedding Rummage Sale. Started in 2014 under the umbrella of Get Hitched Give Hope, HopeChest is now a stand-alone event that aims to reduce, reuse, and recycle while simultaneously giving back to our community.

We’d love to give a HUGE shoutout to our official rental partner and sponsor at the Sustainable Wedding Show on April 6th at Pickering Barn! Come check out some of the beautiful linens and tableware rentals they have in their inventory to get inspiration for your own event.

Pedersen’s is also one of our newest Emerald Hour members, which we’re thrilled about. They’re a leader in sustainability within the local event rentals industry.

One of their biggest accomplishments has been decreasing the need for single use plastic within their systems and utilizing reusable plastic boxes and bins for storing and shipping their rental inventory. Their system eliminates the need for plastic bags on glass racks or when packaging linens. When needed, they use biodegradable plastic bags and all soft plastic that is returned to their facility is recycled.

They also use high efficiency dishwashing and laundry systems, which dramatically reduce the amount of water and detergent needed to meet health and safety standards.

For couples planning a wedding (or anyone planning an event!) there are so many details to think about. It can be difficult to even know where to begin or what to ask when it comes to figuring out how to incorporate sustainability into the process.

This is where the second part of our Green Swaps Guide for Couples can come to the rescue! It’s got some of the top questions you can ask different types of vendors to help make your wedding or event more sustainable. You don’t have to think of everything because these wedding pros are PROS and have lots of knowledge, strategies, and resources to share.

Ask venues: What items can we recycle at your venue and what are your practices with recycling?

Ask floral designers: Do you prioritize seasonal, locally grown flowers?

Ask caterers: Do you use reusable food storage containers?

Hi, we’re Emerald Hour! Nice to meet you!

Who we are: a community of wedding pros who are passionate about the environment and want to make our businesses and the events we help create kinder to the planet.

What we do:
We inspire and empower wedding pros (and couples!) to create more sustainable weddings and events in our beloved PNW.

How we do it:
We offer workshops, support, and members-only events for wedding pros who want to make changes in our industry to be more sustainable (cuz weddings are pretty much of a disaster for the planet!😬)

We also have a free resource available to anyone and everyone on our website. It’s called the Green Swaps Guide and it’s got tons of ideas for ways that wedding pros can make their businesses and the events they help create more sustainable.

For eco-conscious couples we have a separate guide which can be found on our website. It’s called the Green Swaps Guide for Couples and it includes things like no cost/low cost tips, top questions you can ask vendors and some of the most impactful choices you can make to create a more eco-friendly wedding.

We’re excited to nurture our growing community and reach more couples as we all work together to create meaningful, mindful weddings that are beautiful AND sustainable!
