Pumpkins are a little strange. 🎃😂
Here are 6 things you may not know about them:
🎃 Pumpkin is a fruit.
Yes, really.
Pumpkins grow from flowers and have seeds inside. That makes them a fruit.
💦 Pumpkins are about 90% water.
So when you carry a big pumpkin across the field, you are mostly carrying water.

🌿 Pumpkin plants can climb.
Pumpkin vines usually grow along the ground, but they have little curly tendrils that can grab onto things and help the plant grow upwards.

🙈 The stem is not a handle.

Picking up a pumpkin by the stem can damage it and make it spoil faster. Hold your pumpkin from underneath instead.
👀 Orange does not always mean ripe.
We do not only look at the colour.
Growers also check if the skin is hard, if the stem is mature, and if the plant looks ready for harvest.
🌎 Pumpkins are native to the Americas.
People there have grown pumpkins and squash for thousands of years.
