Located in the north-eastern edge of Rwanda, Akagera national park is the largest park in Rwanda covering an area of 1085kmsq. In contrast to the most hills and mountains of Rwanda, Akagera is at a relatively lower altitude with relatively warmer climate, low lying Savannah, acacia woodlands and grasslands making it ideal for game viewing. Its blessed with a variety species of wildlife; buffalo, elephant, hippos, giraffe, zebras, lions, hyenas, leopards and antelopes. Activities to do whilst there are;Boat trip on lake Ihema, Fishing on lake shakani, game drives and Bird watching. There are many places/lodges for accommodation and relaxation these include among others;Akagera game lodge, Ruzizi tented lodge or if you want a low budget accommodation, you can go for camping.
