The “arte” in TravelArte has always mattered to us: another way of discovering, interpreting and connecting with a place.

Our curiosity doesn’t stop with the journeys and experiences we create for our travellers.

We often spend time thinking about what makes something endure: guesthouses given new lives, crafts carried forward, landscapes shaped by generations, recipes, materials or knowledge that change while something essential continues.

We learn a lot exploring exhibitions, studios and the cultural conversations happening around us.

𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑼𝒏𝒇𝒂𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒎𝒂𝒃𝒍𝒆 𝑺𝒉𝒂𝒑𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝑷𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆 in Sibiu resonated with us in many ways. It explores the relationship between humans and nature as parts of the same interconnected system: body and landscape, memory and matter, individual experience and environment, each continuously shaping the other.

At its centre is the idea of persistence. Not as remaining unchanged, but as continuing through change. Through erosion, accumulation, repetition, adaptation, disappearance or return.

It is an idea we recognise. Continuity does not necessarily mean preserving things exactly as they were. Sometimes, what persists does so because it is allowed to evolve.

Perhaps the same is true of our encounters. They continue beyond exhibitions, through memories, landscapes, conversations and images, each reflecting and transforming the others.

A few days spent hosting a wonderful group of US travel journalists in Transylvania, together with Untamed Travelling and Imagine PR.

Days of conversations, encounters and slow living experiences. Sharing our way of looking at Transylvania through heritage, local food, landscapes, craftsmanship and the people keeping these traditions and places alive.

Curating a journey for our international travellers is only part of what we do.

Whenever we can, we are also there ourselves. We host dinners, we bring people together, we explore heritage meals and add the local context that rarely fits into an itinerary.

A layer of care that can make a journey feel more personal and connected.

We’ve been working for a while behind the scenes so today, we are sharing that our new website is live.

We feel it is a step in how our project had grown over the past years. Gradually, through places we’ve discovered, events we've organised, people we’ve met and experiences we’ve had the privilege to create.

What started from our desire to experience Transylvania differently has developed into what we do today: private journeys for travellers, gastronomic and cultural events, creative retreats, all within a carefully curated selection of places from the region we call home.

Our mission stays the same and trust, discretion and connection stand as our core values.

The website will continue to develop with the places we love, the people we work with and the experiences that also shape our own way of travelling through the region.

We first came to Zabola Estate, Transylvania eight years ago, as travellers. We could not have known back then that, years later, we would return as partners.

What stayed with us from that first visit was not the room, the dinner or the fireplace. It was the feeling of entering a world with its own rhythm. A family estate shaped by centuries of history, surrounded by forests, horses and wildlife, where everyday life felt connected to the same story.

It taught us something about the difference between travelling and simply being a tourist. About what it means to become immersed in a slower way of living. To walk without being in a hurry, to listen to the forest, to notice how the light changes from day to night and allow everything to reveal itself.

This is how we choose to show the places we care about. We do not create according to the pace demanded by social media algorithms. We want to leave room for observation, emotion and curiosity. Slow living, and perhaps slow luxury too, deserves a slower approach.

Eight years after our first visit, we now see Zabola Estate with greater familiarity, but still with the same sense of wonder. We are proud to include this remarkable part of Transylvania in the journeys we create.

Our friends Irina and Tavi worked alongside a wonderful team on “Matter, Almost”, a contemporary art exhibition hosted in a beautifully restored barn in Viscri.

We visited recently and beyond the art work itself, we loved having Irina there taking us through the story behind the exhibition, how it came together and the stories of each artist and their craft.

Projects like this inspire us deeply. We believe art, in all its forms, matters because it opens minds, challenges the way we see things and invites us to look at the world around us with different eyes.

One of the things we admired most about this project is the intention behind it: to bring art closer to people and make culture accessible, including towards the local community. This is also why the exhibition is free to visit.

If you find yourself in Viscri in the coming weeks, “Matter, Almost” is open until September 15. 🤍
