Music opens the world. ASIA off the main stage

Some of the most memorable music journeys begin far from the capital's concert halls. In Asia, rhythm can be the way into a rainforest, a steppe and a mountain valley.

🎵Rainforest World Music Festival, Sarawak, Malaysian Borneo, 25-27 June 2027
🎵Playtime Festival, Ulaanbaatar, 2-4 July
🎵Jazz Gunung Bromo in Bromo, East Java, Indonesia

For MICE, these festivals can turn an incentive into a shared discovery: begin in Sarawak, follow the Mongolian steppe or finish beneath a volcano. Each format needs time for flights and ground logistics, but it gives a group a far stronger story than a standard concert evening.

Music opens the world. AFRICA in three rhythms

Music can lead travellers through an old town after sunset, make a coastal city’s history audible, or reveal a global metropolis through its local rhythm.

A Swahili old town, Atlantic ramparts and a city beneath Table Mountain: three festivals turn music into a reason to travel differently.

🎵Sauti za Busara, Zanzibar, 19-21 March 2027
🎵Essaouira, Gnaoua and World Music Festival,24-26 June
🎵Cape Town International Jazz Festival, March 2027

For incentive travel, these are not interchangeable concert stops. Each calls for an itinerary shaped by its city: a Stone Town dinner, an Atlantic coast extension, a design- and food-led Cape Town programme, and early hotel planning. The event opens the door; the destination makes the memory.

When the headliner sets the itinerary

A concert can make an incentive trip.

Andrey Galich, Head of the Concertmaster Project and Incentive Club, has organised corporate journeys to performances by Lana Del Rey, Metallica and Sting. For trips like these, he recommends planning nine to twelve months ahead. The artist sets the dates; flights, hotels and budgets follow. Tickets must be secured for the group, with a contingency plan if the show is cancelled or postponed.

And remember the journey after the encore. With 60,000–80,000 fans leaving a stadium, “We'll meet outside” is not enough. A clear meeting point, a mapped route and workable transport arrangements are essential.

We've taken a closer look at how major events influence where people travel in the spring issue of MUSIC&More, drawing on Andrey's experience in the interview and exploring the wider picture in a separate feature.

How to make a team an orchestra

“Our team works like an orchestra.” Corporate teams say it all the time. What if everyone actually had to play?

Andrey Galich, Head of the Concertmaster Project and Incentive Club, made that metaphor literal. In Concertmaster, colleagues who have never touched a violin learn simple parts and perform a recognisable piece together. The instrument looks elegant, but mastering it takes years. Getting those first notes out is an achievement in itself.

At first there is scratching and laughter. Then the group finds its rhythm. Nobody can scroll through their phone or quietly leave the work to someone else: every part matters. A live drummer joins in – “A metronome is boring. A drummer is fun!” – and suddenly the room hears an orchestra.

Andrey has staged the format for 60 people on the open deck of a moving boat and arranged for violins to be delivered to employees for remote sessions across continents. The common thread is not a perfect recording but a shared accomplishment.

The full story – and Andrey's take on what music can do for a business team – is in our interview for the spring issue of MUSIC&More.
