No passado sábado, 12 de julho, pelas 19h00, a 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝗮𝗿 – 𝗚𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮 𝗱𝗲 𝗔𝗿𝘁𝗲 𝗖𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗺𝗮́𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮 inaugurou a exposição “𝘄𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗵 𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗺 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗲?”, da cineasta 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝘆𝗮𝗺 𝗧𝗮𝗳𝗮𝗸𝗼𝗿𝘆. A mostra apresenta um corpo de trabalho que reúne obras emblemáticas da artista e outras desenvolvidas especialmente para esta ocasião, abordando questões sociais e comunitárias através de uma linguagem que cruza vídeo, performance e documentário com uma abordagem simultaneamente sensível e provocadora.

A inauguração contou com a presença da artista, da equipa do festival, de convidados e do público, num momento de partilha e descoberta que permitiu um mergulho no olhar singular de 𝗧𝗮𝗳𝗮𝗸𝗼𝗿𝘆. Através das suas obras, somos convidados a refletir sobre as narrativas silenciadas e os grupos marginalizados da sociedade contemporânea. A exposição estará patente na Solar até ao dia 30 de agosto de 2025.

[𝗘𝗡] Last Saturday, July 12th, at 7:00 p.m., Solar – Cinematic Art Gallery launched the exhibition “which pain does film cure?” by filmmaker Maryam Tafakory. The exhibit features a collection of key works by the artist, along with pieces created specifically for this event, exploring social and community themes through a blend of video, performance, and documentary. The approach is both sensitive and provocative. The opening was attended by the artist, festival team, guests, and the public, offering a moment of sharing and discovery that provided insight into Tafakory's distinctive perspective. Her works encourage reflection on silenced narratives and marginalised groups in contemporary society. The exhibition will run at Solar until August 30, 2025.

No próximo sábado, 12 de julho às 19h00, a 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝗮𝗿 – 𝗚𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮 𝗱𝗲 𝗔𝗿𝘁𝗲 𝗖𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗺𝗮́𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮 recebe a inauguração da primeira exposição em Portugal de 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝘆𝗮𝗺 𝗧𝗮𝗳𝗮𝗸𝗼𝗿𝘆, uma artista iraniana que tem vindo a afirmar-se internacionalmente através de um trabalho profundamente sensível e político, entre o cinema, a performance e o ensaio visual. Nesta exposição, 𝗧𝗮𝗳𝗮𝗸𝗼𝗿𝘆 apresenta um corpo de trabalho diversificado, uma seleção de obras já conhecidas e outras desenvolvidas expressamente para a exposição, toda ela imaginada pela artista em dispositivos site specific. No conjunto, incitam a aprofundar reflexões sobre as contradições da sociedade iraniana, e sobretudo o lugar da mulher e do desejo.

A inauguração da exposição é de entrada livre e irá decorrer na 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝗮𝗿 – 𝗚𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮 𝗱𝗲 𝗔𝗿𝘁𝗲 𝗖𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗺𝗮́𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮, acompanhada de bar aberto, patrocinado pela DCN Beers, Vine Vinu e Licor 35.​

[𝗘𝗡] Next Saturday, July 12th, at 7:00 p.m., Solar – Cinematic Art Gallery will host the opening of Maryam Tafakory’s first exhibition in Portugal. Tafakory is an Iranian artist who has been making a name for herself internationally through her deeply sensitive and political work, which spans cinema, performance, and visual essays. In this exhibition, Tafakory presents a diverse body of work, a selection of already known works and others developed expressly for the exhibition, all imagined by the artist in site-specific devices. Taken together, they encourage deeper reflection on the contradictions of Iranian society, and above all the place of women and desire.

The exhibition opening is free to the public and will take place at Solar – Cinematic Art Gallery, accompanied by an open bar sponsored by DCN Beers, Vine Vinu, and Licor 35.

𝗠𝗮𝗿𝘆𝗮𝗺 𝗧𝗮𝗳𝗮𝗸𝗼𝗿𝘆 é uma das vozes mais marcantes do cinema contemporâneo, cruzando o ensaio audiovisual com found footage para explorar os silêncios e interdições da imagem — especialmente no contexto iraniano. Em obras como “Irani Bag” (2020) ou “Nazarbazi” (2021), 𝗧𝗮𝗳𝗮𝗸𝗼𝗿𝘆 investiga como o desejo e o afeto resistem à censura, reinventando a linguagem cinematográfica através de colagens visuais, textos e sobreposições. O seu trabalho convida o espetador a “ver o que não se vê” e a ler criticamente o que as imagens omitem, numa reflexão poética e política sobre o corpo, o género e os limites da representação. Enquanto convidada em foco desta edição do 𝗖𝘂𝗿𝘁𝗮𝘀 𝗩𝗶𝗹𝗮 𝗱𝗼 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗲, 𝗧𝗮𝗳𝗮𝗸𝗼𝗿𝘆 apresenta uma retrospetiva parcial da sua obra cinematográfica, assim como uma Carta Branca, permeando e expandindo em sala os diálogos e influências que as suas escolhas estabelecem.

[𝗘𝗡] Maryam Tafakory is one of the most striking voices in contemporary cinema, combining audiovisual essays with found footage to explore the silences and prohibitions of the image—especially in the Iranian context. In works such as “Irani Bag” (2020) and “Nazarbazi” (2021), Tafakory investigates how desire and affection resist censorship, reinventing cinematic language through visual collages, texts, and overlays. Her work invites the viewer to “see what cannot be seen” and to critically read what the images omit, in a poetic and political reflection on the body, gender, and the limits of representation. As the guest in focus for this edition of Curtas Vila do Conde, Tafakory presents a partial retrospective of her cinematographic work, as well as a Carte Blanche, permeating and expanding the dialogues and influences that her choices establish in the theater. Maryam Tafakory trabalha com cinema e performance. Nascida e criada no Irão, 𝗧𝗮𝗳𝗮𝗸𝗼𝗿𝘆 é uma artista visual que faz colagens textuais e fílmicas que juntam poesia, não-ficção especulativa e material de arquivo. Explorando os diferentes registos através dos quais as imagens falam, ou se recusam a falar, o seu trabalho tenta dissecar atos velados de apagamento - de corpos, intimidades e histórias. Os seus projetos baseados em investigação consideram o que é frequentemente negligenciado e descartado como trivial ou excessivo, analisando lacunas históricas, regras sociais e histórias q***r ocultas.

[𝗘𝗡] 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝘆𝗮𝗺 𝗧𝗮𝗳𝗮𝗸𝗼𝗿𝘆 works with film and performance. Born and raised in Iran, 𝗧𝗮𝗳𝗮𝗸𝗼𝗿𝘆 is a visual artist who makes textual and filmic collages that bring together poetry, speculative nonfiction, and archival material. Exploring the different registers through which images speak or refuse to speak, her work attempts to dissect veiled acts of erasure – of bodies, intimacies, and histories. Her research-based projects consider what is often neglected and discarded as trivial or excessive, looking at historical gaps, unspoken rules, and concealed q***r stories. She has an ongoing body of films, performances, and video essays in dialogue with post-revolution Iranian cinema.

O cinema está de volta a Crato com a apresentação de dois programas cinematográficos, com curadoria da Agência da Curta Metragem e da Solar - Galeria de Arte Cinemática. Este ano marca o 20.º aniversário das contínuas contribuições da galeria para a comunidade cinematográfica, razão pelo qual se celebra este programa especial no festival Waking Life. Entre os filmes que serão exibidos está “O Jardim em Movimento”, juntamente com outros títulos notáveis, como “Ruby”, “Undisclosed Recipients”, “Stop - Salas de Ensaio para um Materialismo Histórico”, “After the Law” e “Strokkur”. Estes filmes serão exibidos na secção “Moonscreen”, conhecida pela sua atmosfera distinta e experiência cinematográfica imersiva. Os participantes terão a oportunidade de ver estes filmes nos ecrãs do festival nos dias 19 e 21 de junho de 2025.

[𝗘𝗡] Cinema is making a comeback in Crato with the introduction of two film programs, curated by Agência – Portuguese Short Film Agency and Solar – Cinematic Art Gallery. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the gallery's contributions to the film community, which is why this special program is being celebrated at the Waking Life festival. Among the films set to be showcased is “The Moving Garden,” along with other notable titles such as “After the Law”, “Ruby,” “Undisclosed Recipients,” “Stop - Rehearsal Rooms for a Historical Materialism,” and “Strokkur.” These films will be featured in the Moonscreen section, renowned for its distinctive atmosphere and immersive cinematic experience. Attendees will have the opportunity to view these films on the festival screens on June 19th and 21th, 2025.
