Intentional elegance, simply lived
Curated by Maria João

Inspired by my Portuguese heritage and coastal lifestyle in the Algarve, I share simplicity that never compromises on quality or elegance. To me, simplicity is the ultimate sophistication - whether in a curated home interior, a thoughtfully set table, soulful entertaining, inspired cooking, or mindful travel. 🌿 Welcome to S2E Living - my creative space where life is styled simply, yet always with heart.

Two sisters, a sunset in Portugal and a moment to treasure. ❤️

It's been a difficult road these past few months, and sometimes life reminds us to slow down and appreciate what really matters.

Family, beautiful places, shared moments and the simple pleasures of life.

The heart of S2E Living has always been about just that.

It's lovely to be back.

Do you chop your cushions or leave them alone ?

I am firmly in favour of a gentle chop, particularly on my larger 65 x 65 cm cushions. With a good, full inner, I think it gives a big cushion a relaxed shape and helps it sit beautifully on the sofa.

But I don’t chop every cushion.

Softer, fuller cushions tend to take it beautifully; smaller, firmer or more structured cushions can look much better left as they are.

These particular cushions came from a special décor shop in South Africa and I have loved them for years. It’s one of the reasons I believe in choosing good cushions - beautiful fabrics, good quality inners and interesting fabrics that you will still love years later.

There really is no right or wrong with the cushion chop. It’s a styling choice — and that’s part of making a home your own.

Which do you prefer:
chop or no chop?

A beautiful home begins with the life you choose to live.

Hello, August. 🌾

For many across Europe, August is the month of beach days, outdoor dining, nature, and slowing the pace. It's a reminder that living well isn't about having more - it's about enjoying what matters most.

For us, it always begins at our favourite beach café in the Algarve.

Here's to a month of beautiful homes, meaningful gatherings, and thoughtful choices.

What are you looking forward to most this August?

Some places stay with you long after you've left.

What I loved most about this beautiful Portuguese boutique hotel was not simply how it looked, it was how it made us feel.

Every room had been carefully considered. The interiors felt calm, the outdoor spaces invited you to slow down, and every detail reminded me that beautiful homes are created through thoughtful choices rather than excess.

It is always inspiring to come home with fresh ideas for creating spaces that feel welcoming, elegant and lived in.

Which detail would you most love to bring into your own home?

The easiest way to make a room feel more considered? Style in threes.

This is one of the simplest decorating principles to use at home.

Group three pieces together, ideally with a little variation in height, shape or texture. It creates balance without feeling too perfect or overly styled.

Use it on coffee tables, shelves, console tables, dining tables or anywhere that feels a little unfinished.

A small shift, but it makes a beautiful difference.

Save this idea for the next time a shelf, table or corner needs a little intention.

More simple styling ideas coming this month.

Beautiful summer hosting does not begin with buying everything.

It begins with choosing a few pieces you will use again and again.

These are the hosting essentials I reach for every summer because they work for everyday meals, relaxed evenings with friends and special occasions alike.

Thoughtful choices create beautiful homes.

Which piece do you use every time you entertain?

Building a beautiful table starts with the right foundations.

Simple white tableware is one of the most versatile pieces you can own. It works for everyday meals, summer entertaining, relaxed lunches, family dinners, and special occasions.

When building a tableware collection, focus on pieces you will use year after year rather than chasing trends.

Beautiful homes are created through thoughtful choices, not endless buying.

What is the one piece you reach for every time you set a table?
