En su paso por el podcast "Lemme Ask You This" de Talib Kweli y Tef Poe, KRS-One habla sobre lo que significa ser un verdadero MC, resaltando la importancia de estar en sintonía con su comunidad por ser una filosofía propia del barrio.

"El breaking, el MC, el graffiti y el DJ tienen principios filosóficos. No son solo talentos artísticos. Son formas de pensar", comienza señalando KRS.

"Los MCs no somos como los demás. Pensamos de cierta manera, y el barrio tiene su propia forma de pensar. Nosotros, como MCs, expresamos lo que piensa el barrio. No expresamos lo que piensa una sala de juntas corporativa. Como hacen la mayoría de los raperos. Que critican, pero dicen lo que les piden los corporativos".

"Por eso les gustan esos artistas. Por eso ponen su música. Porque dicen lo que ellos quieren oír, pero nunca dicen lo que la gente quiere escuchar. Nunca representan a su propia comunidad. Por eso no pueden volver y dejarse ver".

"Esta siempre ha sido la prueba de fuego de un verdadero MC. Andar por tu propio barrio. Si no puedes andar por tu propio barrio, no eres un MC. Puedes tener millones de dólares. No me importa cuánto tengas. Si con todo lo que tienes, no puedes ir a casa de tu madre y que los tipos de la esquina digan: Oye, ese es mi colega; algo va mal".

"Es una cuestión de principios. Mantente fiel a tu comunidad. Mantente fiel a tus antepasados. Al final, siempre ganamos con esto. Siempre ganamos", concluye KRS-One.
