Cebu Pacific (PSE: CEB), the Philippines’ leading carrier, continues to expand its international network as it introduces direct flights from Manila to Chiang Mai with its signature Piso Sale, allowing Filipino travelers to explore the mountainous region of northern Thailand.

Starting October 29, 2024, CEB will operate flights from Manila to Chiang Mai three times weekly — every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Chiang Mai to Manila flights, meanwhile, will also operate three times weekly, on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.

Manila - Chiang Mai will be the fourth route that CEB will operate in Thailand. CEB also flies from Manila and Cebu to Bangkok, with the option to fly to Suvarnabhumi Airport or Don Mueang International Airport.

“We share the anticipation of many Filipino travelers as we prepare to launch the only direct flights between Manila and Chiang Mai. This new route will provide our passengers the opportunity to explore Thailand beyond its urban attractions. Chiang Mai’s natural heritage, ancient temples, and laid-back atmosphere promise a tranquil escape for every Juan,” said Xander Lao, CEB President and Chief Commercial Officer.

To make the route launch more exciting, from August 1 to 6, 2024, CEB passengers may book flights from Manila to Chiang Mai for as low as PHP 1 one-way base fare, exclusive of fees and surcharges. The travel period is from October 29, 2024 to March 30, 2025.

With flights to Chiang Mai made more accessible and affordable, Filipino travelers may now embark on scenic trails in Doi Inthanon National Park, enjoy a leisurely stroll in Mae Rim District, or visit Wat Phra That Doi Suthep — one of the most venerated temples in Chiang Mai.

Passengers may use their existing Travel Funds to book flights and avail themselves of other add-ons. CEB also offers other payment options, including credit or debit cards and e-wallets.

CEB currently offers flights to 35 domestic and 26 international destinations spread across Asia, Australia, and the Middle East.

Cebu Pacific Receives CAPA Gold Rating for Sustainability Initiatives, Posts Higher ESG Score for 2023
Cebu Pacific (PSE: CEB) solidifies its position as a leader in sustainable aviation as it received the prestigious Gold rating from the Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation (CAPA) and secured an environmental, social, and governance (ESG) score of 41 from S&P Global for its sustainability initiatives.

In the 2023 CAPA-Envest Global Airline Sustainability Benchmarking Report, CEB's performance in reducing carbon emissions, integrating sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), and transparently disclosing sustainability metrics earned the airline a spot among the top 19 carriers awarded the Gold rating. This also positioned CEB as the highest-rated airline for sustainability in the Philippines and one of the only two low-cost carriers (LCC) in Southeast Asia to achieve this distinction.

In addition to its CAPA Gold rating, CEB improved its ESG score to 41 in 2023 from 38 in 2022, ranking in the 69th percentile among 63 assessed airlines by S&P Global.

The S&P Global ESG Score assesses a company’s performance in ESG management by analyzing company disclosures, media and stakeholder reports, and in-depth company engagement.

CEB scored the highest in the social dimension, with a rating of 53, exceeding the industry average of 44. This strong performance was complemented by significant improvements in the environmental dimension, where the airline boosted its rating from 20 in 2022 to 26. In terms of governance, CEB also rebounded to 41 from its prior rating of 39. These achievements showcase the airline’s commitment to social responsibility and sustainability across various metrics.

“We firmly believe that the future of aviation lies in sustainable practices. CAPA’s acknowledgment of our enhanced environmental, social, and governance performance underscores our steadfast commitment to sustainability. This also motivates us to further explore innovative solutions to reduce our environmental impact and contribute positively to the community," said Alex Reyes, chief strategy officer of Cebu Pacific.

Besides these accolades, CEB was recently hailed as the Most Sustainable Low-Cost Airline in the Philippines for 2023 by World Economic Magazine. In 2022, it also received the Asia Environmental Sustainability Airline/Airline Group of the Year award from CAPA for its exemplary integration of sustainable programs into its operations and collaborative efforts with industry stakeholders.

Over the years, CEB has consistently implemented initiatives to reduce its environmental impact and promote sustainable development. The airline has invested in modern, fuel-efficient new engine option (NEO) aircraft, implemented fuel-saving operational procedures, and transitioned to using electric vehicles (EV) and equipment.

As CEB continues to grow and expand its operations in 2024, the airline remains committed to integrating sustainability into its core business strategy while ensuring safe, reliable, and accessible flights for every Juan.

Book flights to Cebu

While Cebu lures tourists with the promise of the perfect island getaway, at the center of it all is a booming metropolis complete with a highly developed urban landscape.

A long and narrow island in Central Visayas (Region VII), Cebu is where the past and the future merge. Its thriving tourism industry – as evidenced by several daily flights to Cebu – banks on the island’s majestic coves, beautiful beaches, friendly locals and rich history. But its capital city, nicknamed fondly as the Queen City of the South, is a regional powerhouse that helps charge the national economy’s growth.

The newly upgraded Mactan–Cebu International Airport serves flights to Cebu. This airport is located in Mactan Island’s Lapu-Lapu City, about 15km east of the Cebu capital.

Linked to Metro Cebu by two bridges, the busy island of Mactan is a coral island with its share of great beaches and diving spots, and a host of accommodations to match. Many Mactan visitors also include island-hopping in the Bohol Strait in their itinerary.

Keeping the province’s growth engine humming is Cebu City, a major center for business outsourcing such as call centers. Like many Asian cities, it’s pulsing with energy and activity, with a vibrant nightlife, shopping malls and gastronomic spots. But all this progress also means more cars on the roads, and while there are plans to build a Bus Rapid Transit system to help decongest the city, you should prepare yourself for a bit of traffic.

Once a quiet town with just a handful of resorts, Boracay has become the Philippines’ top tourist magnet. Hop on flights to Boracay (Caticlan), and go on a boat ride that will take you to this tiny, bone-shaped island on the northwest corner of Panay province in the Western Visayas region. Whether you’re a budget backpacker or a luxury traveler, you can find a noteworthy getaway on Boracay’s famed shores.

Known globally for its white sand beaches, vivid waters, friendly locals and thriving nightlife, Boracay counts tourism as its bread and butter. Driven by the desire to protect the island from over-tourism, the Philippine government closed Boracay for rehabilitation in 2018, reopening several months later and welcoming visitors with a spruced-up beachfront and promising sustainable tourism.

There is always plenty to do on this idyllic Philippine resort island, which annually charms millions of holidaymakers (including Hollywood celebrities) and rivals other tourism hotspots in Southeast Asia. Boracay has managed to retain its mellow island vibe, despite the influx of tourists and rapid development – making its waters and serene coastlines the perfect urban escape.

Most of Boracay’s attractions can be found along the picture-perfect White Beach, which is divided into three stations (Stations 1, 2 and 3, running from north to south) and has the highest concentration of hotels, restaurants and nightlife spots. Station 1 has the finest sand, the most luxurious resorts and the quietest environs. Station 2 is the busiest, with plenty of restaurants, bars and mid-range hotels. Station 3 is closest to the jetty port and has budget-friendly accommodation options. Some hotels provide easy access to the main road behind them, where motorized rickshaws and motorcycles traverse.

At peak times, White Beach is filled with sun worshippers and divers. Here, you can cap off your day with a cold drink, warm sand between your toes and a front-row seat to Boracay’s breathtaking sunset. Watch — or join in! — as locals and tourists alike play volleyball and beach ultimate Frisbee (the island is home to some of the best teams in the world) on the sand.

But White Beach is certainly not the only thing that the island has to offer. There are over a dozen other lesser-known beaches that attract fewer tourists and have plenty of activities for those looking for more than a tan. Walk to the main road and flag down a tricycle to take you to Bulabog Beach on the other side of the island, considered the best kiteboarding and windsurfing spot in Asia. Seek refuge from the crowds at Diniwid Beach beyond Station 1. Hop on a boat and visit Puka Shell Beach on the northern tip of the island and Tambisaan Beach in the south; return to the coast and cliff-jump into turquoise waters; feel the adrenaline rush and go parasailing for a spectacular bird’s-eye view of Boracay; and snorkel in the pristine waters of the Coral Garden. After enjoying the water sports, you can recuperate and pamper yourself with a traditional Filipino massage.

Looking for souvenirs? Get a permanent one from the slew of tattoo studios on Boracay. After dark, wade into the island’s vibrant nightlife scene and find out for yourself why it’s earned its “Party Beach” reputation. Enjoy the music and booze and meet people from different parts of the world. Alternatively, you can join a pub crawl, where you mix and mingle with fellow tourists while hitting the hottest spots in matching T-shirts.
