It really is! Snake fruit, also known as salak, is not only delicious but also super unique—both in appearance and taste.

With its reddish-brown, scaly skin (hence the name) and a flavor that’s sweet, tangy, and slightly acidic—some describe it as a cross between apples, bananas, and pineapples—it’s a tropical treat that surprises a lot of first-timers.

I just had salak (snake skin fruit) from Thailand for the very first time — and wow, it was amazing! Sweet, tangy, and unlike anything I’ve ever tasted.
