This will be an outstanding night - I remember watching Paul and the Hamilton Country Bluegrass Band on TV, Black and White, with just one channel!

Rural Delivery to Whanganui

A rare treat is in store for Whanganui’s country music fans on 31st July when regulars Andrew and Kirsten London join forces with perennial favourites Ian & Moira Campbell, and welcome banjo-player Paul Trenwith from the legendary Hamilton County Bluegrass Band.

As the Legal Tender Duo, Ian and Moira have been performing an eclectic mix of country covers and originals around New Zealand for decades, and host regular events at their ‘Outhouse’ venue high in the Akatarawa Range featuring some of NZ’s most well-loved performers. Sensitive gui-tar/bass arrangements of songs by Guy Clarke, Hank Williams, Gillian Welch and Alison Krauss are rendered with earthy integrity and exhilarating vocal harmonies.

Andrew London’s original songs were the mainstay of popular swing trio Hot Club Sandwich and country-rock group The Cattlestops before he stepped out under his own name in 2012 with part-ner Kirsten on bass. They recently released their 8th album of original songs called ‘Set Me Up By The Bar’.

Paul Trenwith has never stopped playing since the Hamilton County Bluegrass band burst on to NZ TV screens in the late 1960s, toured Australia with Slim Dusty and played at Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry, the absolute Mecca for country musicians worldwide. As well as contributing to both duos, Paul is quite the techno-geek and has been able to help Andrew with his hearing aid app.

Rural Delivery comes to you at Whanganui’s Heritage House at 7.30pm on Saturday 31st July. With a heady mix of Americana, bluegrass and western swing. Tickets $40.00 at trybooking.com or call/text Murray on 0274429825. Price includes coffee, tea and cake!

‘Set Me Up By The Bar’, the long-awaited new album from Andrew London and an army of collaborators loosely dubbed the Swing Voters, will be officially launched at Whanganui’s Heritage House on 4th July. The band will play all twelve tracks from the new album which includes several of Andrew’s signature satirical offerings about supermarket etiquette, unintentionally falling out with neighbours and the pitfalls of playing in restaurants; some poignant country/folk tunes, and a handful of rollicking western swing-inspired songs that give opportunity for jazz-style improvisation to pianist Wayne Mason, saxophonist James Tait Jamieson and Andrew of course on his trademark 1959 Hofner guitar.
With his ever-reliable partner Kirsten on bass, and the marvellous Ryan Watson on drums, the band will also play a selection of jazz, blues and swing standards from their 2019 album ’Standard Deviations’. There could be dancing, foot-tapping at the very least.
The Swing Voters are a high energy group who allow themselves licence to extend a song as the mood takes them. This is more than obvious on the ‘Set Me Up By The Bar’ album which features no fewer than four saxophonists, namely Nils Olsen, James Tait Jamieson, Brian Omundsen and Oscar Laven. Oscar doubles on clarinet, James on Irish whistle. Kirsten and Ryan hold down the rhythm section, Mason plays keys on several tracks although Andrew contributes piano to the title track. Pedal steel guitarist Bill Bassett contributes some colour to a western swing song, and the ever-ready Neil Billington provides raunchy harmonica to the rocky ‘Shamrock Hotel’. The album will be available on CD, or to stream or download digitally from bandcamp.com.
Premier Performance:
Heritage House, Whanganui

Set Me Up By The Bar!
We're delighted to announce the release of Set Me Up By The Bar, a collection of 12 original songs. With the exception of a couple of new additions, these are songs we've been performing for years but have never previously recorded.
To celebrate, we'd love you to join us for the Album Launch Concert at Heritage House, 136 St Hill Street, Whanganui, on Saturday, 4 July 2026 at 7.30pm. Come along for an evening of great music, good company, and help us celebrate the release of this long-awaited album. CDs will be available for purchase on the night.
Joining us will be a wonderful line-up featuring Andrew, Kirsten, James Tait Jamieson on sax (and a little Irish whistle), Wayne Mason, and Ryan.
The format will be our usual relaxed and entertaining mix of songs, stories, laughter, and a few surprises along the way.
Tickets: $40, including tea, coffee and cake at half-time — because no celebration is complete without cake!
