Maybe today people become "bipartisan" in matters of who in the "freedom community" they support. We are never all going to agree about everything. But there is still plenty of common ground. Surely holding councils accountable is one of those areas?

One of the saddest things I learnt during covid, is that even when you have a large cohort singled out of society, there are still crabs in that bucket just wanting to drag others down.

It was a warning written into the slopes nine years earlier. Remedial work was completed six years before the deadly slip further around the mountain. Why didn't the Council evacuate the campground in 2026?

April 2017: Heavy rains, associated with Cyclone Debbie, left a 14-meter-wide hole through Mauao's base track on the Pilot Bay side and created a 30-meter drop where the path used to be. The stretch allegedly sat on a relic slip.

A $2.2 million beachfront realignment was planned, then a $5.5 million version was dropped. What actually got built in late 2019 cost about $500,000.

How could this event be forgotten by the Council in 2026, especially when the public was raising warnings?

Today I lodged an LGOIMA request with Tauranga City Council for a full breakdown of the $9.1 million Masonic Park upgrade. Awaiting Council’s response.
