It's astro season here in New Zealand and we are here for it! What is "astro season" well this is the time of year where we have the milky way nice and strong across our night skies and longer darker nights to allow plenty of time to get stunning photos under the skies.

Things to know about astro photos, firstly it's at night and in the winter months, so this means it can be cold so be prepared, warm things to wrap up in are great and we are sure to bring along hot water bottles and warm drinks. It's all about being still, in most situations for each image (or attempt) you need to be completely still for 15-20 seconds.

When is best? Astro season lasts from late April through to late October and we need a clear dark sky, the biggest killer for the stars is white light so a bright moon is the last thing you want. Ideally you will want a night around the new moon which in 2025 will be April 28, May 27, June 25, July 25, August 23, September 22 and October 22nd. And for those of you planning a 2026 wedding your best astro dates are March 19, April 17, May 17, June 15, July 14, August 13, September 11, October 11, November 9.

Happy Earth Day 🌏✨
Earth Day 2025, Our Power, Our Planet is all about not just how we power our planet but the power of the individual to make change that is positive for our planet. The last year has seen some big changes for us here at Shaken & Stirred, our office now runs on solar! We have installed solar panels as well as a battery to make the most of the power our sun can give us. In addition to watching weather closely for all of our weddings we now watch it closely to make sure we are charging batteries when the sun shines and doing our best to be using 100% renewable resources for our power. In addition we have also made the switch to a fully electric vehicle also charged using those solar panels. We have invested in a fully electric mustang mach-e which is our main source of transport (when bike won’t due) and is now the vehicle our amazing couples will be transported in when they travel with their photographer which is included in all our elopement packages.

Our planet and our environment is so important to us so in addition to the strides we have taken above we also continue to plant 5 trees for every wedding we do, we fully offset the carbon of every helicopter flight we take through different green initiatives which in past years has included rebuilding mangroves in at risk coastal areas. We are dedicated to weddings that have low to zero harm on the environment so you won’t see any confetti here, flower petals (that get cleaned and composted) and bubbles only, we work with a florist who has our same environmental concerns at heart, we work with caterers and restaurants that support local and sustainable farming including many small steps like being paperless where possible (we print marriage licenses and your vows if you need).

We live on a beautiful planet and we want to keep it that way so giving you an amazing wedding of your dreams while still caring for the earth is not only a passion of ours but a core part of our business and we can’t thank you enough for supporting us and our planet.

It really was one of those perfect days, a warm autumn afternoon filled with so much love to bring Zowie and Leighton together as husband and wife. Happy anniversary!

Imagine your favourite things, hiking to mountain tops, board games, picnics at waterfalls and of course your person. Now turn that into your wedding day. Only you are taken by helicopter instead of a sweaty hike.

Rory and Chris had the most amazing day filled with their favourite things. From a beautifully emotional walk down the mountain top aisle, to the perfect bouquet of wildflowers, first dance with the most epic views, playing games surrounded by waterfalls while nibbling cheese and sipping champagne it couldn’t have been a better day. This is just a little teaser from their day.

Molly and Alfie met and fell in love in Queenstown, while backpacking through New Zealand. They are avid travellers and have been to some stunning places on this planet so it was definitely a privilege that Queenstown was the place they decided to get married and bring their family and friends to show off this little corner of the world. With family from the USA as well as the UK and friends travelling from all over the globe it really was the perfect celebration of their love story even down to a surprise song and dance from all the guests for the couple! And Queenstown didn't disappoint, with a fresh dusting of snow on the Remarkables, the most stunning rainbow for nearly the whole ceremony and a stunning late afternoon sun. Molly and Alfie we hope your first year of marriage has been as spectacular as your first day was 💛

Shout out to the amazing humans that we call “celebrants”! You may have heard them called officiant as well, as they are the people that make your wedding official, but we prefer celebrant because they are way more than just signing some paperwork and making it official. These amazing men and women are the people who take your story and turn it in to your ceremony, they are the ones who will walk down memory lane with you, the ones who hi-light what make your love special, the ones who help with your vows and so much more. Really their job is to make your ceremony a true celebration of you, getting to the point where you say your i do’s and getting excited about every day together after that point so we think CELEBRATant is the perfect word to describe their job. If you have been to a few weddings you will know how important choosing this person is, and we take that job seriously. You won’t be seeing any boring ceremonies here!

1 year ago today a beautiful blonde little 6 year old decided she was going to become a photographer. She quickly learned the ropes, took off with one of our cameras and captured some great candid moments at a wedding. Oh also 1 year ago today that little girls parents got married! Happiest of anniversaries to Ruby and Jordan and of course their beautiful 3 daughters ❤️

This past Sunday we celebrated these two soulmates! Just over 12 years since they became official (they dated in secret for months first) and a few hundred kms from their horse sized 4 legged child Klaus, they said some nice things about each other, promised to make it forever, put a ring on it and celebrated with 60 of their favourite people and it truly was a day to remember!

"Our elopement experience was nothing short of incredible, carefree, and fun!!! We couldn't recommend Kellie enough! Herself and her team made everything so easy. They genuinely cared about our day and our experience—it never felt like just another wedding to them. Communication was always prompt, and they were on top of every detail, so we didn’t have to worry or think about anything.

The day itself was indescribable, the most amazing feeling, and that was largely due to how smoothly everything went in the lead-up and on the day itself. Because of Kellie we were able to be fully present, soaking in every moment with each other and our young daughters. The experience was more than I can put in to words. Absolutely LOVED our photo's as well!"
