Bring on RE:Ignite24!
RE:Ignite
20 years ago there was a rule enforced for all rotary street cars to have a scatter blanket/shield installed in order to drag race. We believe the rotary drag racing scene has been dying off for many years because of this. It’s an extra cost and hassle that most rotary owners didn’t want to go through and instead avoided Drag Racing altogether.
Premier Events NZ and Azhar made history back in May, after many years of campaigning and fighting, we finally managed to get the rule dropped on all IHRA drag racing tracks (including Meremere) and have the scatter blanket rule removed for all rotaries running 11.0 or slower – which is essentially the bulk of rotary street cars that have been avoiding the strip for so long. A huge thanks goes out to all the businesses and supporters that had our backs, and especially IHRA for allowing this to happen.
As you know by now, Premier Events NZ are extremely passionate about the Rotary and Drag Racing scene and we couldn’t be happier with this result. Not only do we hope it’ll re-ignite the passion in the rotary drag racing scene, but we know it’ll bring back numbers to the strip, as proven last weekend at RE:Ignite. It’s not only us and fellow rotary owners that benefit from this, but other event promoters in the scene and tracks will also be able to take advantage and see numbers increase.
RE:Ignite had record numbers of rotaries pre-entered – almost 300 in the Drag Racing, Burnouts and Show & Shine, with more late entries on the day. 200 of them dedicated to going down the strip. No drag strips in NZ have seen those sort of rotary numbers in many years.
We want to keep the celebration rolling – bring on RE:Ignite 24!
September 2024 - Brought to you by the whole rotary community and industry!
