Want your lilies to last longer? 🌸
A few simple steps — backed by how flowers actually function — can make a big difference:
✂ Trim stems on an angle
Cutting the stem increases the surface area for water uptake. Flowers rely on capillary action to pull water up the stem, and a fresh cut prevents blockages caused by air entering the сосуд system (xylem).
💧 Change the water every 2–3 days
Bacteria build up quickly in standing water, clogging the stem and reducing water absorption. Clean water = better hydration and longer-lasting blooms.
🍃 Remove leaves below the waterline
Submerged leaves break down and accelerate bacterial growth, shortening vase life.
🌡 Keep lilies cool
Lower temperatures slow respiration (the process where flowers use stored energy), meaning blooms open more slowly and last longer.
A little science goes a long way...
