Still getting over an amazing weekend so sorry for the late publishing of results 😁

A massive thank you to all our competitors, sponsors and volunteers for bringing Kapiti Big Fish to fruition. For a first-time attempt the event was mind blowing to witness and we certainly had fun bringing it to you.....so much so planning is already underway to bring it back bigger and better next year!

A huge congratulations to all our winners:

Adult section:
Heaviest Kahawai – Donny Mason, 2.05kg
2nd Heaviest Kahawai – Ngarangi Haenga, 1.82kg
3rd Heaviest Kahawai – Sam McLeod, 1.77kg
4th Heaviest Kahawai - Tony Healy, 1.72kg

Heaviest Snapper – Memphis Craig, 1.8kg
2nd Heaviest Snapper – Anton Foley – 1.23kg

Junior section:
Heaviest Kahawai – Sayge Mason, 1.75kg
2nd Heaviest Kahawai – Jason Junior Ransby, 1.43kg (weighed in first)
3rd Heaviest Kahawai – Taitea Love Junior, 1.43kg
4th Heaviest Kahawai – Sayge Mason, 0.89kg

Total fish caught for the weekend, 31 (29 kahawai and 2 snapper). Several rig, ray and mullet were also caught along with at least two tree branches 🤣

Got sent this great video of Macy and dad Dan enjoying some family fishing time at Kapiti Big Fish. Apparently Macy is hooked on surfcasting now and already planning next years comp! Awesome effort on winding in that huge ray 🤩

5 or so kahawai weighed in so far today and the odd shark, ray, kontiki or drone snagged as well!

Remember to get weighed in before 2pm, prize giving approx 3.30 near the surf club.

Our President Blair is heading down the beach selling tickets for our chainsaw raffle…..wave him down and have a chat 👍

Weather conditions are looking superb with light winds and sunshine all day……here’s hoping the water has cleaned up a bit and the fish are biting!

Fishing starts from 8am to 2pm, prize giving approx 3.30pm near the surf club.

Remember you MUST be in line at the weigh station by 2pm if you want your fish weighed.

Bring some cash to prize giving for raffles and sausage sizzle and don’t forget to post your photos or message them through 😎🐟🐟🐟

Kāpiti Coast District Council and their major event funding program gave Kapiti Big Fish organisers the confidence via start up funding to hold this event.

In time the Kapiti Big Fish competition will become the premier, must attend fishing event held right here on the beautiful Kapiti Coast.

Our friends at Koastal kerb-nz ltd are no strangers to supporting local community events and clubs and we’re pumped to have them on board for Kapiti Big Fish.

A local family business that has just celebrated 20 years in business, Nathan & Nicole are passionate about boating and fishing and are actively involved and key members of Otaki Boating Club.

With Koastal Kerb's backing and sponsorship over the years our clubrooms and competitions have reached next level and we wouldn't be where we are today without their generous support.
