A Spectacular Kiwi Adventure awaits... After the finish line 🏁

We've partnered with The Spectacle to offer something a bit different for runners heading to Nelson this December - A 7-day self-drive adventure package built for exploring the very best of the Top of the South once the race is done.

Over 7 days you'll wind through Nelson, Abel Tasman National Park, Murchison and Nelson Lakes, with three big anchor adventures built in. A day biking Nelson's legendary trails, a day exploring Abel Tasman by sea kayak, waka, sailboat or canyon, and a day rafting the mighty Buller River in Murchison.

Every day has a family-friendly version too, so it works whether you're bringing the kids or chasing your next adrenaline hit. The days in between are yours to fill — hikes, trail runs, wildlife, and some of the region's best food and hospitality.

It's early days for this package and we're building it with feedback from runners like you.

An unforgettable day on the Takaka Hill with Peter from Takaka Hill Adventures, tackling the new Via Ferrata routes under bluebird skies.

We started with a practice route, learning the harnesses and how to clip onto the wire. Then straight into The Traverse - climbing and traversing our way up high, followed by the best lunch spot imaginable.

Over lunch we weighed up whether to take on 'The Conqueror', a decent step up from the first route. We went for it. Ladders pushing out from the cliff face into open air, and a few moments where everyone in the group was properly challenged. Then the sky seat at almost 900m above sea level, looking out over Golden Bay and the Abel Tasman.

Hard going, and absolutely worth every second.

Huge thanks to Peter, who guided us through step by step and made sure everyone felt safe, solid and genuinely capable. His business is only a year or so old and he's doing a brilliant job. Really pleased to be affiliated with Takaka Hill Adventures and looking forward to our paths crossing again.

Spent a gorgeous afternoon out on the bike with Bernie from Cycle Nelson yesterday, getting to know the business and having a proper look at what they offer.

It was also my first ever ride on an e-bike. As someone who's used to working the legs hard on an unpowered mountain bike, it was quite the revelation. Slightly worried it's ruined me forever.

Cycle Nelson is exactly the kind of local operator I love connecting our visitors with. Small, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about riding in this part of the country. Cheers Bernie!

Had an amazing night out with Brook Waimarama Sanctuary last night on their 'Night in the Forest' tour. Lots of gorgeous creepy crawly things, absolutely passionate guides even a brush with the elusive kiwi.

I'm mildly ashamed to say I've lived in Nelson for the last 15 years, and this was my first visit. I'll definitely be back - the Sanctuary is by far more wilder and lovelier than any zoo I've seen.

It's been such a pleasure getting into some of our local Nelson high schools over the last couple of weeks, meeting with their international departments and talking with students about their families' trips to New Zealand later this year.

Not every New Zealand adventure comes with blue skies! ❄️🌧️

Jeremy and I recently spent a week in Dunedin visiting family, and while the weather certainly tested us with freezing temperatures and plenty of rain, it reminded us just how special this part of New Zealand is.

From the dramatic coastline of the Otago Peninsula to the historic architecture, cosy cafés, and fantastic food scene, Dunedin has so much to offer. We made the most of a few precious hours of sunshine with a walk at Tunnel Beach, enjoyed more than one visit to Starfish Café, and finished one evening with a wonderful meal at Etrusco.

Sometimes the best destinations aren't the busiest ones. Dunedin is full of character, history, and spectacular scenery, making it well worth adding to your New Zealand itinerary—even if you need to pack an extra warm jacket! 🇳🇿❤️
