Fresh ranunculus and tulips picked for another flower fundraiser 🌸🌷💕

It’s been such a nice change of pace this Spring with no pressure to grow or sell an abundance of flowers. Growing just enough to enjoy at home, share with friends, family and my local community.

The dahlia field is mostly prepped and waiting for planting, the dahlia seedlings are germinating and there’s plenty of tubers potted up for cuttings.

But there’s not a constant rush to do and be all the things. There’s time to relax, enjoy the fleeting baby snuggles, keep on top of the often neglected housework, and enjoy my coffee while it’s still hot.

The weeks are still disappearing before my eyes. What’s that saying? The days are long but the years are short. So I’m soaking it all in.

Good things grow in slow seasons too 🌸

I knew they were trouble when I planted them in!

Ranunculus are the Goldilocks of the flower world. Not too hot, not too cold, not too wet, not too dry. Everything has to be juuust right… and they’ll still get mildew the moment you look away.

Are they worth it though… a big YES from me!

Thank you to everyone who has reached out. I’m aware of a post circulating that includes my business. It leaves out important context which I’d like to address.

I blocked this person after a period of behaviour I was uncomfortable with, and it wasn’t about any one incident. I wanted to get on with my own business without confrontation.

I was then subjected to repeated unwanted contact that has caused me real distress, including the use of alternate names and accounts to get around the block. I won’t share the specifics publicly, but they are documented, and I sought legal advice to make it stop.

It’s not for me to speak on anyone else’s individual experience, but I have a right to protect myself and my business from damaging claims. Setting boundaries in response to a pattern of behaviour is not bullying. I can’t control what narrative forms in response, but I can stand behind what’s documented.

There is plenty of room for competition and collaboration, and I’m grateful for the support of this wonderful community. I’d like the focus to go back to growing pretty flowers and fostering a positive space for all the flower friends.

I know I said I was pulling back on growing all the things, but I can’t let go of ranunculus.

I mean… look at them!!!

Grown from seed (not me, thanks to Lisa I Flora Flower Farm | Matakana Coast, NZ seedling brokerage).

Most of these flowers have been given away or filled my house, and the corms they produce will be sold in Autumn.

If you’re wondering why your ranunculus don’t look like this, there’s a couple of things to troubleshoot:
- check you’re growing either Amandine or Elegance varieties, they are bred for specialty cut flowers.
- ranunculus are HUNGRY and need regular feeding
- watch out for powdery mildew & other fungal issues

There are plenty more varieties to grow, and I can’t pick a favourite, can you?

It was all a dream ✨

And that dream started with the mastermind that is Dee Dee.

It was an honour to form one part of this incredible collective of growers for the Grand Tuber, Seed & Seedling Sale in Tauranga.

A huge collaborative effort to bring this event together led by Dee alongside Chaos Blooms Cutting Garden, Kaille and GG, Maxwelton's Valley Blooms, Organika, Pears & Peonies, Meadowland Irises and our amazing support teams on the day.

A special shout out and thank you to Shannon - The Hanna's Flower Garden, Neate Flowers | Sarah Neate 💛, Ruby Wildflower / Kirsty & Maddy for your hard work setting up, serving customers, keeping me fed and hydrated, and all the good vibes. I couldn’t have done this without my flower friends.

But most of all, THANK YOU to everyone who purchased a ticket and showed up to support all of us. Blown away by the turnout from the incredible extended community of flower lovers. Thank you for choosing to spend your Saturday with us, and for supporting small growers doing what we love.

Home to my family and a lovely big pile of BioRich Organic Compost for the new flower field. Let’s get stuck in!
