Honestly stoked with this beautiful patch of Lunaria annua (aka honesty hehe). I can't wait for the gorgeous moon shaped papery seed pods 😍. A biennial, it has taken many tries to get the timing right, but planting out seedlings in early summer seems to be the go! It is always frustrating when what grows as a w**d is tricky to hit right for perfect cropping lol.

There's something about spring blooms that this seasonal florist can't get enough of! Maybe it's the seasonality of them - a once a year deal 🤍. Maybe it is that they are softer and best as locally grown flowers 😉. Who cares.....just look at them!

It's always interesting to me how the flowers you're using influence your style as a florist.

Now that my floristry is almost always with flowers grown here at Maytrees or from other local growers, I find that I tend towards a more relaxed bouquet style. Not overly structured, still with balance and harmony, but just maybe letting the flowers speak for themselves, and perhaps riot a bit like they do in the garden.

Sometimes, it's harder to achieve than a more rigid approach......but I think I'll make like the Kaiser Chiefs, and predict a riot!

Our first online spring planted release has a date set! Our first perennials of the year are ready to find their new homes - 25 varieties of perennials that make great cut flowers!

We have more varieities to be released onine in November and an onsite plant sale and open-day still to come this spring (date TBD) 😍

There is something really special about gifting flowers from your garden.

As part of the Garden Otepoti Bloom festival next month, I am running a workshop on how to make beautiful garden flower bouquets, with flowers from your garden, ready to gift.

No experience nessisary, just a bucket of home grown flowers and your creativity needed. Oh, and a sharp pair of snips.

Tuesday 20th October 9.30-12pm

Propagation Facility, Dunedin Botanic Garden
