🌙 Introducing the inimitable ༦ཐཝཐ།ལགཐ༤ 🌙

Ayaluna is a feminine force in the Aotearoa bass music scene, known for her rich, atmospheric and deeply personal productions. She has released music on Samsara Beats, Freddy Street Records and PDDCK, contributed to various compilations, and contributed a vocal feature on Congi’s track Burn from the album Quartz.

Before discovering dubstep in 2020, Ayaluna’s musical foundations were rooted in hip-hop, R&B and cinematic composition, producing work for Nganeko, Oceans Before Me Charitable Trust and the Wellington City Council. Immersed in the vibrant Te Whanganui-a-Tara bass scene, she quickly found her place within sound system culture.

Raised in Paris by a deeply anti-war Lebanese family, Ayaluna’s artistic vision is shaped by her family’s stories of Lebanon’s civil war and the pulse of the city she grew up in. Reconnecting with her roots through recent travels to Lebanon and Paris continues to influence her creative direction.

At PoiPoi we can expect more juicy originals, an exploration of the interplay between shadow and light, an invitation to remember who we are and where we come from.

🔊 We’re very excited about this new addition to the PoiPoi fam 🔥

Introducing , who will be spinning some wax for us at PoiPoi 2026 👏

JOAT is the DJ alias of Matthew Mizzi, a Malta-born selector now based in Christchurch. With over 15 years of experience DJing, promoting events, and running sound system sessions across Malta, Europe, and Aotearoa, he has been deeply involved in the world of dubstep both behind the decks and behind the scenes.

JOAT places strong emphasis on flow and progression, crafting sets to move listeners through a journey. Drawing from different styles and eras of bass music, he focuses on seamless blends and thoughtful selection, creating moments where tracks merge into something entirely new.

In recent years, JOAT has developed a strong focus on vinyl, building a collection of records and now playing almost exclusively on wax. What began as a way to access classic tracks that were never released digitally soon became a deeper passion. Beyond the challenge and satisfaction of mixing records, vinyl offers a tactile connection to the music, encouraging a deeper understanding of each tune and a more immersive approach to DJing.

At PoiPoi, JOAT will be concocting a conglomeration of weighty basslines, textured rhythms, and melodic elements that evoke emotion. Expect his set to balance energy, depth, and atmosphere while staying true to the sound system culture that first inspired him.

🌬️ Waikirikiri Kōpuni Taonga Pūoro collective presents ‘Ngā Waiata Awa’

A Taonga Pūoro sound immersion into the waters of Te Wai Pounamu from the mountains to the sea. Featuring field recordings of 7 treasured rivers, including the Rakaia, Rangitata, Porarari, Okuti, Nga Wai o Tawhirimatea and Waikirikiri. All woven live with the ancient reo of ngā Taonga Pūoro. Walking in the footsteps of Ngā Kaiwaiata Awa the River Singers of Waitaha who once trekked all the rivers of the South Island testing and monitoring water quality, and adding to the rivers natural songs.

Kiki Pounamu are weavers of sound, story, and memory from Aotearoa. Through the breath of taonga pūoro, they journey between whenua and sky, carrying the voices of Te Pū Taiao — the natural world — and the ancestors into the present moment.

The collective brings together Gabriel Calcott (Atawhai), producer and Kaipūngao Oro ~ Sound energist; Rua Pick, visual and aural storyteller; and Michelle Croft (Tuarāhonu), Kaipūngao Oro and Kai Mirimiri. Together they create sonic landscapes that invite deep listening, remembrance, healing, and connection.

🔥 Coming in hot…. 🔥

Chris has spent years practicing with the aim of expressing how music, movement and mind can all occupy the same space simultaneously through meditative movement, with flow arts as the medium. They have taught flow arts to ~20,000 students in person, and will be coming to PoiPoi to share what they’ve learned along the way.

We are very pleased to announce that and will be joining us for Poipoi 26’

Hailing from the great forest of Tiriwa and raised by the black sands of Te Henga, Te Manu (Tangata Tiriti) seeks to decolonise the dance and bring forth the music of Te Pō by sonically weaving taonga pūoro and waiata Māori with soundsytem-oriented deep dub and bass. Their music serves as a meeting point of Te Ao Tawhito and Te Ao Hurihuri - where stone, wood and bone meet dubbed-out FX and sub bass frequencies.

Joined by vocalist and taonga pūoro player, ngāio (Ngāi Te Rangi, Ngāti Maru ki Hauraki), whose multi-disciplinary storytelling captures whakapapa made and in the making, the two invite listeners on a journey through a world of many worlds.

Unique and soulful - this will be a treat for our ears and our hearts.

with be sharing his writing prowess with an Eco-somatic Poetry Workshop ✍️

🖊️ We’ll journey inwards, outwards and translate our experiences with poetry. We’ll write our way into kinship with the more-than-human world. The whole body holds the page. Let’s practice our ode to the earth.

Harley Bell is a poet, writer and editor from Aotearoa, New Zealand. He has been published in various journals. He spends his time in cafes, libraries, forests and parks. He draws inspiration from the conversation between the natural world and cityscapes. He isn’t sure why he wrote this in the third person.
