In many families, stories about the Second World War have been passed down from generation to generation. Stories about a grandfather who had to go into hiding, a relative who was part of the resistance, an evacuation, an encounter with the liberators, or someone who never returned home after the war.
Sometimes itโs a story that is still told regularly. Sometimes itโs just a few sentences you once heard from your parents or grandparents. And sometimes thereโs an old photograph, letter or diary tucked away in the attic, with a story that is barely known.
At Camp Liberty, we believe it is important to preserve these personal stories too. They help us understand what the war meant for the people who lived through it.
Which Second World War story has been passed down through your family?
Weโd love to read your stories in the comments. Perhaps your memory will also help others gain a better understanding of a part of their family history.
