Abraham Meeuwsen spreekt met grafisch ontwerper, kunstenaar, DJ en producer Yessica Deira. Deira experimenteert in haar werk met het reconstrueren van collectief bewustzijn door middel van design, muziek, film, geluid en performance.

Het gesprek verkent de thema’s en kwaliteiten van Deira’s werk en onderzoek tegen een achtergrond van persoonlijke verhalen, feministische en collectieve frameworks, zwarte theorie, meerstemmigheid en haar kijk op grafisch ontwerp.

Binnen haar autonome werk laat Deira de grens tussen grafisch ontwerp en muziek vervagen en experimenteert ze met wat deze twee disciplines voor elkaar kunnen betekenen. Daarnaast onderzoekt ze hoe muziek een rol kan spelen in het archief zoals we dat nu kennen.

As a part of the promising AMPFEMININE collective, she aims to add a lovely variety of colour behind the decks and add the feminine energy that is missing in the power dynamics that are currently in place. Since starting out in mid 2019, Soft Break became a resident at MONO in Rotterdam and is one of the latest graduates from the No Shade DJ Mentoring Program 2020 in Berlin.
