*A CALL FOR URGENT ACTION: CONDEMNING THE BRUTAL KILLINGS IN OTUKPO LGA*

I, *Hon. Chief Baba Ode, PhD,Candidate for the Federal House of Representatives, Otukpo/Ohimini Federal Constituency*, unequivocally condemn the horrific and senseless killings that have occurred in Akpachi-Ugboju, Otukpo-Nobi, and other affected communities within Otukpo Local Government Area.

These barbaric attacks, which have resulted in the tragic loss of innocent lives and the displacement of peaceful residents, constitute a grievous assault on our collective humanity and an affront to the sanctity of life. No society committed to justice, peace, and the rule of law should tolerate such wanton acts of violence.

I extend my deepest condolences to the bereaved families and stand in solidarity with every community that has suffered unimaginable pain and devastation. The grief of our people is shared, and their cries for justice must not go unanswered.

I call upon the Federal Government, the Benue State Government, and all relevant security institutions to rise above rhetoric and take decisive, coordinated, and sustained measures to restore peace and security across the affected communities.

There is an urgent need to strengthen the presence and operational capacity of security agencies in Akpachi-Ugboju, Otukpo-Nobi, and other vulnerable communities within Otukpo LGA. The protection of lives and property remains the foremost constitutional responsibility of government, and our people deserve to live without fear.

Furthermore, I demand that all individuals responsible for these reprehensible crimes be identified through a transparent and thorough investigation, apprehended without delay, and prosecuted in accordance with the full weight of the law. Justice must not only be done but must be seen to be done. A culture of impunity only emboldens criminality and perpetuates insecurity.

At this critical moment, I also urge our people to remain calm, law-abiding, and united. While our anguish is justified, we must resist every temptation to resort to reprisals or actions capable of escalating tensions. Let us continue to uphold the values of peace, mutual respect, and lawful engagement while demanding accountability from those entrusted with our security.

The recurring bloodshed in our communities is unacceptable. Every Nigerian life is sacred, and every citizen deserves the protection of the law, irrespective of location or circumstance. We must collectively reject violence and work towards building a future where peace, justice, and security prevail.

May God comfort the families of the departed, grant healing to the injured, and restore lasting peace to Otukpo LGA, Benue State, and our nation.

I warmly welcome the safe return of the students and teachers who were kidnapped in Oyo State some months ago.

This development brings immense relief to their families, loved ones, and all Nigerians who stood in hope and prayer for their safe release. While details surrounding their rescue are still emerging, I commend the Federal Government, the Oyo State Government, our gallant security agencies, and every individual and organization whose collective efforts contributed to the successful return of the victims.

No child, teacher, or citizen should ever have to endure the trauma of abduction simply for pursuing education or carrying out their daily responsibilities. The safety and security of every Nigerian must remain a top priority.

I urge the Federal Government and all relevant security authorities to strengthen proactive security measures across schools and communities to prevent the recurrence of such unfortunate incidents. Protecting lives and property is the foremost responsibility of government and remains the foundation of national peace, progress, and development.

As we celebrate the safe return of these students and teachers, let us remain united in our resolve to build a Nigeria where every child can learn without fear, every teacher can carry out their duties in safety, and every citizen can live in peace and security.
