Otukpo Finally Gets Potable Water Supply from Otobi Water Treatment Station
After many years of hardship, Otukpo town has finally regained access to safe and drinkable water from the Otobi Water Treatment Station.
We can all recall with sadness how Otukpo was cut off from water supply for a very long time due to damages at the Otobi Water Treatment Station. This unfortunate breakdown plunged the people of Otukpo into severe water scarcity. However, upon assumption of office, Hon. Odoh Ugwu, Commissioner for Water Resources, Environment and Climate Change in the administration of Governor Hyacinth Alia, took decisive and painstaking steps to salvage the situation.
His first move was to visit the Otobi water supply source for a site assessment. He then carefully selected some of the best water engineers to analyze the extent of the damage and recommend the most workable and sustainable solution. With diligence, he developed an accurate and detailed paper which he presented before Governor Alia and the State Executive Council. This outstanding presentation earned the governorโs approval to engage the same Chinese company contracted during the Ortom administrationโwho had been paid but abandoned the project. Through Hon. Ugwuโs persistence and convincing power, the company was persuaded to return to site, while the state government offset the outstanding debt of hundreds of millions of naira owed to the firm.
Furthermore, Hon. Ugwu introduced another excellent idea: the proper reticulation of water across Otukpo town. Governor Alia, seeing the far-reaching benefit of this proposal, immediately approved it. From then on, Hon. Ugwu personally monitored the project, traveling regularly from Makurdi to Otobi and Otukpo to ensure strict compliance with standards at every stage.
The restoration of Otukpoโs water supply under Hon. Odoh Ugwu initially faced skepticism and negative publicity from some quarters. Many doubted it could ever become a reality. Yet, Hon. Ugwu never gave up. Through resilience and commitment, he has successfully delivered this life-changing project.
Today, as we rejoice over the restoration of water supply to Otukpo, we remain grateful to His Excellency, Governor Hyacinth Alia, for his unwavering support. We also appeal to the governor to consider reappointing Hon. Odoh Ugwu into his cabinet so that he may continue to serve as a dependable force in this administration for the benefit of all.
